Sometimes people are going to be upset through a natural course of events. It doesn't require "fixing" so much as just being there for them and giving it the time and space to fix itself.

Then try talking to them about it after they've had time to calm down. Often people know the solution inside of themselves, but it can take talking to a friend to find it.
