[In the park today, a sleeping puppy in his lap, Light looks peaceful, hair lifted by a light breeze. He's out here to get away from everything going on at the house, and the peace and quiet has let him think. The sunshine coming in through the leafy canopy that shades him casts his face in mottled light and shadow, and makes his vermillion shirt ( Read more... )

Admittedly I liked it when we were Shiraga and Kurookano.

Did you? Shiraga was a beautiful name, I think. I'd have liked to have kept it a little longer.

A name with 'Shira' in it... I know that part well.

I have always wondered what you could have done with my name. If anything. The ideas behind it interested me.

If the note could have killed you when nothing else seems to be able to, you mean? I wonder too.

Oh, no. I wonder if it could have hurt my heart at all.

We'll never find out.

Oh well.

It's just I've never found names to be quite as important as you do. When this name was chosen for me I treated it more as a title. Though-

[Hahaha.]

Though it seems you took it upon yourself to take your surname as a title, in a way, didn't you?

In a way, I suppose you're right. It's more than just a title, though, it identifies you in the memory of others.

Yes, and in that, you're right. However, I don't find that something like that is important to me personally.

Why not?

It's pointless; in a while, they'll be gone, and then their memory would be useless to them anyhow.

Sometimes memories are passed down.

Wouldn't I know it. It isn't the same, though.

Maybe not.

Memories like that are misheard, misread. Misconstrued. Mis-sing. You hear a name or title that's been passed down and then you expect something completely different. It becomes tedious and then people look at you with surprise or disbelief or whatever other things you don't really want.

[Light actually laughs.] Most people don't get to live on to see how they are remembered--they just want to be remembered.
