Today I began my occupation as 'Librarian' within the Siren's Port public-access library.

Since many of you are unaware of this service, I took it upon myself to explain basic library law.

----

First law: Books are for use
Library materials are for public consumption.

In order to provide the public with adequate materials library policy must be respected.

Damaged materials, over-due loans and poor library etiquette will be considered an obstruction of public use, and will not be tolerated.

Second Law: Every reader his or her book
All human beings are entitled to education, therefore all human beings are entitled to the library.

I believe 'human being' is a generalization in Sirens Port; and all humanoid species are entitled to the library as well.

Dogs however, are not allowed on the premises.

Third Law: Every book its reader
Suffice to say, if library staff decide you are not that reader - you will not be reading that book.

A valid ID is required to access materials containing mature content.

Fourth Law: Save the time of the reader
It is the duty of library staff to provide the public with excellent library service.

If you require assistance, it's within a librarian's ability to provide research, cataloging, cross-referencing, ordering, accessioning, and circulation of public materials.

Fifth Law: The library is a growing organism
If what you are looking for is not immediately available, we will do our best to accommodate you.

The library's organization and materials change according to public interest, we cannot meet your demands if they are not communicated.

Abuse or poor behaviour towards library staff will be regarded as a breach of policy, and result in a ban from the premises.

----

If you're interested in reading the official policy document, it is a readily available public-access material.
