What'd you do to 'em to cause the breakage?

H-huh? Oh, um...they fell. They're just cracked.

Clumsy, aren't you. The lenses, you mean, or the actual glasses are cracked clean in half?

Heh...y-yeah, a little. One of the lenses has a crack in it.

Might want to work on that, mate. I hear clumsiness isn't very keenly rewarded around here. D'you have the glasses close by?

They're in my pocket. Why?

Because I'm painting a picture of your apartment and I have to know where your glasses are in order to get it exactly right.

. . .

You'd be surprised how not funny jokes like that can be given the kinds of surveillance people can use.

Scarier still, I wouldn't even need surveillance equipment to do it. It's because I want to see your glasses, Oatsy, now bung 'em up into sight already.

You could have just said that...

[He takes his glasses out of his labcoat pocket--sure enough, there was an obvious crack running diagonally across the right lens.]

Aw, that's entirely fixable! And here I thought they were shattered beyond all repair or something. My mate James gets cracks worse than those just from walking into walls, and he always manages to fix 'em up.

You're paying someone to fix it for you?

I don't really have a choice, y'know. I can't exactly make my own prescription lenses.

I mean fix it, mate, fix it, not make new ones. You're paying for that to be done? How much does that usually cost, then?

...I'm actually not too sure. I've never broken them before, amazingly enough.

What, despite clumsiness? If I were to repair 'em for you--technically, you ought to pay me this undisclosed sum, yeah?

Well, I guess--

...wait, you can do that?
