[ snaps to voice, but for a good while, there's only the faint sound of flapping wings. finally: ]

... Oh! It does work. Then what did I just do...?

[ short silence, before he coughs and moves on. ]This... is a different network, isn't it? That connects to other 'newcomers?' Well, ah, hello. My name's Allen ( Read more... )

What was so strange about it??

Voice forever. payingthepiper May 22 2010, 17:31:27 UTC
I think it was about when she started talking about the different worlds.

Forever and ever amen riddlemered May 22 2010, 17:45:14 UTC
Yup, that is strange. But true nonetheless. A lot of us here are from different worlds, dimensions, parallel universes, time paradoxes, that sort of thing.

I... see.

Well, that's certainly-- interesting. And fascinating. Everyone gathered into one place? Working, ah, relatively well together?

For the most part. It would probably be paradise on earth if not for the newcomer murders going on. [D-don't say such things so casually, Battler!! D:]

[ oh, hey, something the Greeter didn't cover. ]

... Newcomer murders?

[Surprised]

Your Greeter didn't tell you? Yeah, at first a lot of newcomers were turning up dead. Now even locals are a target but no one knows if it's the same killer or someone else. Either way, this city isn't too difficult to get by in but it's also pretty dangerous. Did she tell you anything about the Darkness or the newcomer prejudice??

She told me about the Darkness, yes. [ and he assumed about the prejudice. ] Not about any murders. How long has it been happening?

riddlemered May 22 2010, 18:58:13 UTC
I don't know. I've only been here about... six or seven weeks now? Definitely since I've been here, though. And they're usually pretty brutal. [Which doesn't sit well with him in more than a few ways.]

The newcomers here have formed a few volunteer groups to help out and protect the newer newbies like yourself. We have our spats and disagreements, but we tend to stick together for the most part especially when things get really tough.

I hope it doesn't last too much longer, in that case. Everyone must be trying to solve it, if it's involving all-- groups...?

... Something like a police group, you mean?

Reply

riddlemered May 22 2010, 19:33:05 UTC
Yeah, I guess you could call it that, since the real police here are a joke, anyway. I've heard that there is a small group of detectives trying to figure things out but I don't know much of anything beyond that. I wouldn't be useful in such situations so I try to stay out of the way. [And he's had enough of dealing with dead, butchered bodies.]

Thank you for telling me, anyway. But, ah-- what do you mean, that the police here are a joke? They aren't able to do much?

riddlemered May 22 2010, 20:25:49 UTC
More like they're just as corrupt as some of the other key figures of this city.

payingthepiper May 22 2010, 20:33:09 UTC
Corruption's that common? I heard some things about AGI and SERO, but...
