We all wish desperately to go home, as a matter of course. The key, I believe, to returning home is figuring out precisely why we've been brought here, and that means deducing what commonalities exist amongst us. And it seems that I have noticed one not uncommon trait among many here, and wish to know if it is indeed a pattern or merely a coincidence.
[An awkward pause.] I'm aware of how this question sounds, coming from me. I am a prosecutor and will never falter in the prosecution of criminal acts - indeed, to do so is my primary mission in life. But I pursue crimes for which there is evidence - solid evidence. I have never prosecuted a crime before based on a confession alone, and I would not start now. I am not, after all, Kira.
So if you answer my question, you have nothing to fear from me. And answering it is before all else a matter of your own discretion and your own free will; I will not condemn you if you abstain from responding. I would, further, encourage those who speak to do so under encryption; I have no desire to have Kira acting against those who do speak.
So I ask, therefore: Have you ever committed or stood accused of a crime?
I will not keep records of the subsequent conversations.
