...The weather's been kind of bad, hasn't it?

[Namine sighs. Since get stuck inside to hide from the storm and portaling her way home, she feels a little restless, and a lot of cold. Her first time experiencing winter and she feels frozen inside.]

I heard at school, before the snow came, that there's another New Years. It's different though, and ( Read more... )

Huh. That's interesting. Dragons and luck don't really mesh so well together in my experience. And I find this and the most recent stuff going on highly coincidental now that you mention it.

You're... used to dragons? [The only one at home was Mushu, and... he's more like a lizard. Or compact-sized.]

What kind of recent stuff? Or do you mean things like the buildings and the storm?

Yeah. Had to deal with them almost every day back at home, but that was normal.

[He says this almost nonchalantly, but he tries easing up on that.]

I meant the buildings and the storm. And honestly not the best 'welcome back' surprises I've experienced.

That... must have been scary.

Ah, no, it's hasn't been. Usually, it's not this bad, so...

Hopefully, it'll get better.

Eh. Sometimes. Most of the time.

But that would be nice, yeah. Less exploding, less extreme changes in storm patterns...

If you don't mind me asking... what were they like?

[She's not really laughing at that, but it did bring a little bit of a smile. Namine's still a bit worried about the apartments that got bombed even though it's been a week.] It's not really like this, normally. Ah, did you just arrive?

Most of them are pretty large, but they can range in size. Each have different shapes, different colors. They also got sharp teeth, bad tempers, and large eyes. Although they can be unpredictable...there may be something more to them...

-Oh. I did. On the day of the apartment towers blowing up, actually. [A pause. Yeah, maybe he shouldn't have said that. He'll just add on one more thing to distract from that.] Hhhowever, I've been told I've been here before.

They do sound dangerous, and not very lucky.

[Eep, that's definitely not lucky.] Oh, are you okay? Do you have somewhere to stay?

You too? That's what happens sometimes with a few people, but the memories from their previous time here in the city don't come back.

Yup! Pretty much. Annnd it wasn't fun, but I'm fine. Yeah. I'm at the community center. For now, anyway. Hopefully that can change...

...That's still weird, but I guess since this is a weird place, it's practically normal. [Pause.] What, you mean you also had the same experience?

Hopefully. There are others there too, right? I doubt you'll stay there forever...

[But she can't tell him that it won't happen again. She's seen what the reaction to Newcomers has been before.]

That could be one way of looking at this place. [And a pause on her end as well.] I have, as have others here. It happens sometimes, when someone comes to the city and gets pulled out of it. It's... sort of normal.

Sounds like it. [At least, this is the first time he's heard of someone else who's been pulled back and forth.] How do people deal with that anyway? It's got to be a pain in the neck.

[He can't see it, but she does smile somberly.] It isn't easy, especially when people say that they knew you before and you don't know them now.

[The bluntness of his tone lessens at the thought.]

...It doesn't sound fair, either.

[There's a heavy sigh. She's not offended by his tone, but hates the situation.]

It's... not. Nothing is fair when something can damage your memories, but, there's not a lot that people can do about it besides accept it.
