[ John's return comes at a particularly bad moment. well, there's never really a good time, as his first arrival hadn't been timed that much better either.

[Maya shovels a few snacks and a movie into her bag before taking off and making a break for the clinic. She doesn't quite run, but she's walking pretty quickly, and thus slightly winded by the time she gets to him]

[It takes her a while (and a lot of asking) to get there, but by the time she's made it she's a little red-faced and trying to pretend she isn't worried]

[ he's staring into space when maya arrives. his fingers are fixed on the buttons of his nv, but he's not really reacting to anything until someone addresses him. he turns his head to look at her. sometime during the interim, it looks like he's been crying. ]
