[The voice is level, thoughtful, composed, and perhaps familiar.]To those who do not know me, my name is Miles Edgeworth. Until last...October, it seems, I had been a resident of this city, but - as happens to so many - I was returned home. I arrived back here earlier today. Though I've already spoken with some of my contacts regarding some of the ( Read more... )

Slavery?

[KOS-MOS hasn't heard about the slavery yet.]

Indeed. You are not familiar with AGI's practices?

No, I am not. I arrived several days ago and I am still compiling all necessary information.

Quite. AGI - Afterglow, Inc. - will purchase the contracts of debtors, convicted criminals, and indeed merely those who were in the wrong place at the wrong time, and they will impress them into slavery. It is, unfortunately, a legal and accepted practice here, though I among others was working to change that.

How dishonorable.

[More evidence towards her "primitive humanity" belief. Not that she needed any more.]

It is good that there are people working against it.

A great many honorable people, indeed. And not merely newcomers; longtime residents have objected to the practice as well. But it is...deeply ingrained in the culture here, and widely accepted.

Forgive me; I did not catch your name, Ms...

In the time I have come from, slavery was abolished many centuries ago. I hope that you will be successful here.

My name is KOS-MOS.

Likewise. In my home, legalized slavery was a thing of the past - though unfortunately, we could not lay claim to "many" centuries.

Forgive my rudeness, however - how is that spelled? Cosmos...?

At least it can be claimed as part of the past and not modern times.

[KOS-MOS freezes for a moment. She's remembering flowers, a field of cosmos. But it's gone quickly.]

It is not rude, do not worry. [She actually sends a text file to make it more simple.] My name is often confusing to others.

...Well. It's a touch unusual. Of what origin is it?

It is a recursive acronym used to denote an anti-Gnosis tactic system, my purpose.

I beg your pardon. I didn't entirely follow.

KOS-MOS stands for Kosmos Obey Strategical Multiple Operations System. I am a weapon, built to combat the Gnosis.

[AND SHE'S SO RELAXED ABOUT IT!]

You are...religious, then? Do you mean to say you object to gnosticism?

Religious? No, I am not. I combat the beings called Gnosis that live within Imaginary Space.
