Kaito? [The voice of the girl is a high thread; anxiety has plainly slipped in. The next words are even higher, a thin thread threatening to break:] Kaito![Softer,] Anyone

[There's a video of snow, falling gently over mountains, white as far as the eye can see and almost surreal. The voice is smooth, genderless and soothing, with soft music murmuring in the background.]
Hello, Aoko Nakamori. The Core pulled you here - it's a machine, but it's broken very badly. I'm sorry you're lost, I know how disconcerting that is. I just got here a few days ago myself.
[The snow is oddly soothing, yes, in the wake of everything that is harsh and unfamiliar. In turn, Aoko's monitor clears as well, revealing a girl with bushy brown hair in her teens, wide eyes staring into the camera.]
[She takes a breath, obviously trying to control some temper. Her teeth knife briefly into her lower lip.]
Well, it's stupid. I've been away way too long as it is.
[. . . Okay, there's a little bit of temper there yet. Again she pauses. Her cheeks are red with internal fuming. When she speaks again, though, it's a little softer.]
[This stranger . . . so soothing, though he or she didn't know Aoko whatsoever. Aoko can't help but to be lulled by it, even though instinct nudges her to remember the inherent danger in unknowns over a network. Very softly,]
I-- . . . Thank you . . .
[Trying to shake it off,]
The snow on your video . . . is that where you are?
This may be a bit strange for you if you aren't used to it, but I'm not actually a person. I'm a house. But I do talk and I'm quite clever!
[Have a series of still pictures, showing a fairly large, slightly futuristic house perched on the top of a snowy mountain, from different angles at ~60º intervals.]

Has this happened to you before?
Reply
Mm . . . yeah. Just before this. There they wanted me to . . .
[Another blink, as though trying to clear her head.]
Save something. I think? Something big. It was important.
Reply
I'm sure you did just fine.
Reply
I didn't. I--
[Her fingers move briefly to something that can't be seen on screen. A murmur, barely audible,]
I didn't save anyone.

Shhh, it's okay. Maybe here you can have another chance to do better?

[As though the thought just occurred to her,]
Can't you usually see the person who's running the video on video?

[Have an Aoko looking blank. . . . Very blank.]
You're . . . a house?
. . .
Like . . . a house house?
[. . . Yeah, you'll probably be getting a lot of this reaction in the future, house.]
Reply
Very much so.

[Please excuse Aoko as she takes a moment to absorb this.]
