[Dr. Yumeno is sitting in the waiting room of a small and empty clinic this morning, rolling a smooth glass ball between his hands on the coffeetable. He's restocked a few of the magazines. He's cleaned the fishtank. He's still on duty, and running out of things to do to keep himself preoccupied from his own thoughts]
It's another slow morning at the Newcomer Center Clinic, so I thought I thought it might be wise to put out a reminder that we're still here, just a few blocks east of the towers, and still offering a variety of free clinic services, including recommended vaccinations and the physical examinations recommended for many kinds of employment or education...as it seems the Core is back to spitting out new arrivals again, along with 'unbreakable' glass spheres?
[He doesn't let the spinning 'flakes' inside the glowing snowglobe sphere come to a rest, instead giving it a quick spin and slipping the heavy ball back into his pocket] I hear that the asking price is currently 2.5k for SERO's core research departments to have a look at these things, by the way. [A wry, slightly cynical chuckle] (And here we've been told that sentiment is priceless..)
But to refrain from further commentary on that matter: I also wanted to put out a reminder that the Newcomer Fund, a collective foundation to provide assistance with small interest-free loans, may be used for assist-pay with higher education. I've spoken to the fund's manager, Franziska Von Karma, who assures me the numbers are well within operating capacity to help with tuition costs for the spring. So just in case yesterday's news about the public education grants ripping the rug out from under us in the eleventh hour worries anyone who was considering higher learning at SPU this semester, there are alternative options to AGI or SERO-backed financial assistance. So go ahead and continue planning for your coursework, if there's been any worry, and I'll be happy to direct your requests or questions to Miss Von Karma. For those of you who are well-established, please consider giving back with a donation.
As for the NPP, we're considering new ways to expand the Center in the coming year, and I'd like to get my proposals in and on the table a little early. Re-l Mayer's already putting together a schedule for newcomer-taught workshops, classes...
That's where you come in. I've been doing a little gym membership shopping lately- (as that seems to be the big New Year's push,) and I'm curious, as a man invested in issues of community health-personal fitness and exercise regimes:
How many of you have them, what do they typically entail in terms of equipment, if any, and who among you as an alternative to monthly gym fees would take advantage of a modest-sized space for exercise machines in the NPP building or a room set aside in the Towers, if they were offered at no cost to you?
