I just... [He sighs.] I've always wanted to be a star, as you know, but not just for fame. I want to be a star to communicate with people, to send a message, to make an impact. And I'd finally secured a prominent role in a play--my very first, mind you--and the impression I make is...this.

It's horrifying. I've never wanted to be a part of something like this. I want to do the opposite. I--I know it's horribly egotistical to assume responsibility for a production I didn't direct or conceive, or to imply that I had anything to do with the tragedy that followed, at least not directly--but all the same...

I don't think it's bad at all that you wanted to make people's lives better, but - Kurt, this isn't your fault at all!

It's not bad to care about people! What happened to them... It's horrible. It's not wrong to be sad about it.

I'll try. But it's kind of difficult, you know? Like--how it used to be difficult for you to accept compliments, or stop being down on yourself. You've gotten much better, but it took time, didn't it?
