Subway operations were disrupted last evening when a large monster appeared on the tracks, blocking trains from proceeding further and stranding passengers in the tunnels. The subway line between stations 19 to 26 were put on emergency shutdown to contain the monsters, while service crew evacuated passengers from stalled trains. This is the largest security breach of the subway tunnels since the city government installed advanced Darkness-proofing measures in 1994.
Passengers were left trapped with the monsters in the tunnels for over an hour, until SERO security squads arrived. Wielding equipment specially designed with the Viscera's powers in mind, the subways were quickly cleared of the remaining monsters, with other specimens captured by SERO for further study.
According to eyewitness accounts, several Newcomers were among the individuals who stepped forward to protect the passengers and escort them from the stranded trains to the stations. One individual even reported seeing one man wrench a train car free of the tracks and throw it at the large monster blocking the tracks, causing it to retreat deeper into the tunnels. Other passengers have stated that the monster seemed unusual, even among the Viscera.
"It wasn't like the rest of them," asserted Kate Greene, a mother of two who was among the passengers trapped during their evening commute. "It just stayed there and watched, like it was waiting for something. And the others listened to it..."
"Looking at it made me sick," said Robert Doyle, a train worker who said that he saw the monster while it was ducking into an unused side-tunnel. "Like it was made up of the bodies of all those people who died... I recognized some of those faces from the news."
Normal subway service resumes after morning sirens, though commuters can expect a slight delay in train arrivals due to ongoing efforts to search the tunnels for breaches in Darkness-proofing.
