11 [video]: Czelsaw Meyer Is Legitimately Concerned By An Article In The Newspaper

Nov 27, 2011 03:42

[Just After Morning Sirens]

[A newspaper is being held up to the NV. The device is recording face-up from a flat surface, looking at a ceiling that someone familiar with the room might identify as the one in Magneto's condo, but there really isn't enough time for that. Because a newspaper covers most of the screen, an article about the bodies ( Read more... )

[The newspaper article had been a curiosity (kind of a gruesome way to go, wasn't it?), but even when he listened to Czes talk about the Rail Tracer, it had only sounded a little familiar-like he'd heard it somewhere before.

It's not until the name 'Vino' is mentioned that Firo realizes that the place he'd heard 'Rail Tracer' before had been from Claire. He's sharply reminded, too, of Claire's puzzling presence in Czeslaw's dream; in the days since then, he'd forgotten to ask either of them about it. But it makes sense now, to an extent: if Czes had seen Claire at work, it really could be the stuff of nightmares for the kid.

However, something about this doesn't sit quite right with him, and it leaves him feeling uneasy. Maybe it's just the uncertainty of whether or not the killer in the article really is Claire, or maybe it's the fact that he doesn't know anything about the incident Czes is talking about...

He'll have to ask Claire about it later. For now, though, Firo wants to assure Czes that there's nothing to worry about...]

[Firo looks composed, but there's an edge of frustration to his voice:] If Vino's the one who did it, I don't think you'll need to worry too much about it. That guy always has his reasons.

I'd be more concerned about who the victims were. [And what they'd done to deserve it-or to get a hit put out on them.]

[Oh, Firo. You've always been such a friend to Claire, and never knew about the fated meeting of Czeslaw and the Rail Tracer - only Czeslaw's phobia of redheads.]

Anyone who'd drag someone from a train is just plain crazy. [He mutters it darkly.] That's plenty to worry about.

[There's a frown on Firo's face now.] Maybe the method was a bit gruesome, but it's just his line of work. You know that back home, 'Vino' is well-known as an assassin, right?

Putting aside the deaths today, if he killed some people on the train you rode, I'm certain he had a good reason for it-and stopped when it was time to stop.

[But more than that... If Czes had really spent a lot of time with Firo like he'd said, surely he'd met Claire once or twice-and not as the genius assassin 'Vino'. So why the need for this...? He wouldn't put it past Claire to spread the name of Vino around a bit, but Czeslaw linking him so quickly to the murders in the paper and trying to point him out is something unexpected. Unwelcome, even. Firo has known Claire for years, after all, and Czeslaw only a matter of months.]

There's never a good reason to torture someone, Firo.

[He leaves it at that. This is a conversation he's always dreaded having - knowing Claire is like a brother to Firo, knowing his own sins were punished, if extremely - he doesn't know who Firo would choose, and he doesn't want to make him have to.

At this juncture, what hurts more is that Firo, who also grows to be a brother to Czeslaw, would surely trust Claire over him.]

[...With it phrased like that, Firo can at least see how the method could have hit a sore spot. But even so: if it's Claire, there's no need to worry. That guy wouldn't go after his friends.

His feeble attempts at assuring Czes that it'll be fine haven't seemed to do much, so he changes gears instead of responding to Czes's statement. After all-there's only no need to worry if it is Claire.]

Are you sure it's even him this time? [He jabs a finger towards the camera, trying to indicate the newspaper.]

[Later, Czeslaw will surely feel relief that Firo hasn't dismissed him completely over this.

He really is a good kid.]

I'm just calling it as I see it. He's up to something, and those crimes are his style.

But fingerin' him just because of that...! [His frustration is completely obvious now, but he looks away and sighs.]

It'd've been better to ask him in the first place. I could've even done it for you since he scares you that much.

And risk either of us being killed bloody for our offense? I don't think so.

This is not our city, Firo. Maybe the Pull has made him go mad... well, madder. Maybe he's changed, or maybe he just isn't as good a person as you always thought. [There's a certain bitter edge to that last sentence.]

I won't send you over to talk to him like pals. The rules don't apply here, no Gandors or Martillos.

[He really doesn't get it, loyalty on its own merits. Perhaps, someday, in another century, he will be able to look back to this and see that as sad.]

I know you don't know me, my past is a future you haven't lived yet. But even so, in good conscience, I wouldn't put you in danger like that.

Killed for our offense?

[Czes clearly has his reasons for distrusting Claire, but using them to protect Firo from his friend leaves a bad taste in his mouth. He scowls at the camera now.]

If you really know me in the future, then you'd know that Claire is my pal. You're right that there are no Gandors or Martillos here, but we were friends long before then; so now it just means there isn't a reason for us to end up on opposite sides of a conflict.

There's no danger at all in me talking to Vino.

Okay.

But I wouldn't ask you to do it. He is not my friend.
