[ It has been a long, long time since last time she made a post to the network. In August, the time of her birthday, in fact. A month after her death. Three months later, and she still wave up with shivers. No excuse, though. It happened, she's alive now, and the water is underneath the bridge. Well no, not really. Actually, it's not under the ( Read more... )

Hey, now, the dog is alive and it's gonna be taken care of. That's the most important thing.

[ Though, honestly? Zoey doesn't really care. She's all about kicking ass in the name of protecting people. If she caught the person responsible, she'll do more than just slap a ticket and have him arrested for animal cruelty.

But first she gotta be a cop first. ]

Yeah, but the fiend responsible could be out there doing this to other defenseless animals! I mean, really, what kind of person does that? That puppy's nowhere near big enough to be any sorta threat! Maybe if it was fifteen times bigger and had a few more pairs of legs, sure, but this... this is just cruel!

If I had found the guy dumping the puppy in the garbage can, I'd arrested him for animal cruelty. But I haven't, and my duty now is to take care of her. It's not right and getting vengeance for the runt isn't likely going to happen, but at least the victim has a second chance. In cases of injustice like this, you can only help the those have been hurt. Plus, I really can't bring myself to think "What if" while on the job.

[ Man, someone get some cheesy 80s rock and roll music blasting. She sounds like some over the top, cliche hero, but what's she's saying it's basically the truth. ]

Why should its attacker get a second chance, too? Just because you can't be bothered finding out who it is?

Since when not finding the guy equate to not bothering? I know my chances on finding those responsible are slim, but I still working on it even though there are other cases that can be actually solved. I'm only making the welfare of the puppy first and foremost. What would you want me to do, just leave it on the street and let it take care for itself while I run off chasing down a cold trail?

Can't you do... both, or something?

The best I can do is to ask questions about the puppy in the area it was found in and hand out flyers of a found puppy. But that's the most I can do. You're more likely to follow up a case of an abused kid than an abandoned dog because at least children have a voice to speak up.

So, the dog doesn't deserve to be fought for just because it can't talk?

[ For god's sake, man - ]

No, because she can't tell me who is the fucker that did this! I am not a superhero, or a genius detective, or some divine warrior sent from God to fight evil. I'm just a cop who just happened to find a puppy dying in a garbage can. You want to stop people from doing these horrible things? Then join the force. Maybe you are more capable than I am with these cases, and that's good. Because this city needs it.

I don't really know anything about laws, though. I just want to make sure that nobody's treated badly or hurt by something that's easily preventable. So this sicko's doing dogs right now, but what if he moves onto small children or something?

If you're serious about it, then you have to undergo a month-long training and study of the law, as well as volunteer work for patrol duty before you'll be assessed. Trust me, I didn't know anything about Canadian law before I came here. You'll pick it up along the way.
