[Running a special protocol in the background, Light tries to track everyone who accesses this post, in an effort to control the observation to only people who are truly newcomers. It may not work, but the very fact that he's watching makes him feel as though he may learn something.
Be grateful, Big Boss, this is finally a move that he's making

Well, it's not urgent or anything, but I wanted to talk to you. [About a certain Alexander.]

[He knows Light's work schedule. He's waiting in the usual cafe, the usual table, and the according district in the evening, playing around with his NV. There's already two glasses of water.]

Jack. You wanted to speak to me?

It's 'Alexander', in front of a confectionary store during the Darkness. It's only his profile, and you don't get a very good look on his face...but his posture and clothes look similar to L, even if he appears a little more filthy than the famous detective, and taller. His black hair, too, is just as unkempt, but somewhat longer.]
Do they all look like that? If so, I can understand if they don't want to show their faces publicly.

He looks just like L does. Or rather, Deneuve, Ryuzaki, Eraldo Coil. But this is most certainly B. Beyond Birthday, or Rue Ryuzaki, one of L's successors, and a failure. Not quite the World's Greatest Criminal that he had wanted to become. Yet, this B is uninjured, so it must be that hecame from before that point.]
It all makes so much more sense now. This is B, Jack. B, like L and M and N. He was killed by Kira in my world.
[He looks up.]
And yes, they're all like that. Quirky.

So it's true that he is a detective...a brilliant one at that, I guess. Suppose he can afford to be eccentric, then.
[Looks up.]
If he's one of them, why do you have me help him? Call him a 'possible ally'?

He is exceedingly intelligent, though -- there were a series of locked room murders he was involved with in Los Angeles, which seemed completely unsolveable. He worked alongside a woman named Naomi Misora during that time; an agent of the FBI.
I would rather have B on my side than L's, that is all. I'm certain his competitiveness would hold true even here, and his more intimate knowledge of L himself.. I mean look -- he even copies L. The lust for sweet things, the angle he stands at, the way he's cut his hair. It's not perfect, but it's close if you extrapolate that he hasn't seen him for years. They could almost be brothers.
We need him to get home. Can you accept that, Jack?

...I suppose. I'll look after him for a while, then, if you think he'd be willing to help...not only to keep Deneuve, Near and Mello away from you, but also to figure out how to return home...
[He sounds distant as he says this, feeling down and not particularly in the mood to argue, and he tries to ignore this feeling he's been having since a few days -- something bad was about to happen. You didn't need some weird ability to be able to tell.
And as irony has it, he would indeed return home very soon, just not in the way he'd expect. Completely unaware that 'returning home' would do him more harm than good, but you can't run from fate.]
But you need to tell him this yourself. I don't know how he'd react to your true identity, though. But that's not for me to worry about.

[He reaches across the table, taking the other man's hand. He looks upset - vulnerable.]
We'll get home, I promise.

And he's too emotionally involved in this to quit. Bad habit, bad habit. Smoking will kill you. So would a bullet.
But there was something that makes him pause, momentarily.]
You killed him? Why?

Even the best people in the world sometimes grow impatient, crossing lines they shouldn't to achieve what they feel they must, even when those things are morally wrong. Both B and L, in their pursuit of justice, have done things that cannot be forgiven and gotten away with them, thanks to their anonymity.
It blinds you -- the desire to make the world a better place makes it easy for you to forget yourself in the meantime.
