[Sasan is strolling through the city, on his way to the Tower Apartments with his newcomer welcome package for lack of any other place to be. Not to mention it's chilly outside and he'd rather cringe at his living arrangements now to get it over with so he can work on finding a proper place to stay. He figures any housing offered for free has got ( Read more... )

You can hopefully acquire a more functional NV in due time, if you wish?

[A short laugh, but the young man is pleasant- has a broad tolerance for new arrivals and their disoriented irritation.]

This is Dr. Daedalus Yumeno- who am I speaking with?

En-Vee? The creepy people around the baseball field were talking about that--it stands for network device, right? So... that's what this is? I wasn't really listening.

[A doctor, hm? Hopefully that meant he is smart.] I'm Sasan. I'm normally more of the L.A. type than the Canada type.

That's right. You're connected in on default to the network most newcomers use to keep in touch with one another- exchange favors, form a collective resource within the city. Natives are often less helpful.

L.A. [A guessing squint-] ...Los Angeles? We have newcomer attorneys here that have come from there. Prosecutor Godot- and also Edgeworth, Mr. Wright, who are sadly no longer with us.

And I hear that often- 'Canada', as if the very place is something derogatory?

[Sasan's eyebrows go up and down as he listens to the NV talk.] Mmhmm..

[He'd rather talk about LA. He's familiar with that.] Only the most infamous acronym for those initials. [He nods.] Well, it's good to know there's still law found in Canada, even if it had to come from the States. It's really just a wannabe US filled with nice people, maple syrup, and more French accents.

What are you a doctor of?

French accents aren't necessarily a terrible thing.

[There's a good deal of amusement tucked into that gentle defense, however, and an unmistakeable hint of something warmly fond. Either it's a particular weakness of his, accents, or he's taken up a french lover.]

But that's very in line with what I've heard, from other Americans. Usually they also mention Hockey as a religion! [His curiosity might betray a well-tempered unfamiliarity, a tolerant and somewhat entertained ignorance about modern stereotypes drawn between national lines.]

Medicine- I'm a general practitioner at the Newcomer Clinic Center, and I've recently begun training for specialized oncology treatment at Skye Medical. I also have background in genetic and early developmental research, and public health administration.

[So basically, by the sound of things, and a certain youth to his voice, no matter how maturely he carries himself, Dr. Yumeno gives off the impression of a gigantically ambitious genius-type, who poses very well for mild and modest?]...I know that ( ... )

[The fondness isn't unnoticed by Sasan but he doesn't mention it, almost brushes by it entirely.]

Yes, hockey might be considered a religion by muscleheaded members of the lower-middle class who are pumped full of hormones. [He wouldn't put it past them.]

That sounds like a lot of pressure. [Sasan's voice is smooth like velvet.] How do you ever unwind?

[Lower-middle class- so if it wasn't obvious already, Sasan here has wealthier leanings. Noted.]

It's quite brutal sport! Particularly here, where the rules are...loose, from what I'm told. We've had boys in the clinic who have shown up thoroughly bruised and battered- missing teeth, too.

I hold up well under most pressure, I suppose. But unwinding? Well- we've been working on that.

Euck, [He makes a face at the descriptions.] how distasteful.

I've always found going out to meet new people to be the best method of unwinding.

I'm a bit more of a stay-at-home in the peace and quiet, by instinct.

But new people are fascinating. Particularly in port.

[Hollywood had no peace and quiet; Sasan cannot relate.]

Right, now, is that because so many of them are unwilling guests here or are there some worth really looking at?

Well- people who arrive here, many of them trend on the remarkable and extraordinary.

Those who are not inherently, find themselves 'gifted' with phenomenal innate talents by some sort of side effect of The Pull.

But either way, I'd never really been exposed to people beyond citizens of Romdeau City, prior to my arrival here. So it's...an experience.

The Greeters didn't have the chance to tell you about 'Powers', either?

This island is home to Superhumanity. In fact, that may be attached to the reason we are confined here.

Well, wait for the first sensational display in the streets, then- though people are usually discreet about the sorts of things that would cause public disturbance.

It's commonplace here. And still very strange to me, so I understand your doubts.
