[This is Celes.]

[This is Celes looking pissed off.]

[This is Celes looking pissed off while giving a good view of herself in this lovely costume.]

Honestly. Just what - Damn it. [And now this is Celes realizing that she’d turned on the video function rather than the voice function and irritably switching over. Say goodbye to the nice view, ( Read more... )

I could bring you something to cover yourself with -- like a robe or a sweater.

I don't think either of those would get over the wings. [She's also not big on accepting offers from people she's never met.]

Hmm...if the wings are not bothersome for you, I can tailor a hole into whatever garments you would like to wear over it, so that it will fit.

Everything about this costume is bothersome. [Though the wings are probably the least of it, really. The skirt -- or lack thereof -- is what's really indecent.]

That's . . . an awfully kind offer for someone you've never met. [Still unsure.]

Oh, is it really? [ She personally didn't consider it 'awfully kind' when she didn't really have any ulterior motives at the moment and it wasn't out of her way. ] You might not be someone I know, but you're still a person forced into an unreasonable situation. When you can lend a hand, you don't necessarily need to be acquainted with that person, right?

So if you'll tell me where you are, I'll bring you something to wear as soon as I finish it.

In my experience, it is. [Celes grew up without these kinds of simple kindnesses. This isn't her first one, but they still confuse her.]

... I suppose it couldn't hurt. [Privately texts the address.]

[ It takes Caster approximately twenty-five minutes to arrive at the given address. With a bundle of fabric draped over her arm in stark white contrast to her dark clothing, she gently knocks on the door with gloved knuckles and awaits a response. ]

[Menolly has gone by this point, and some of Celes's irritation is diffused. She still wants to find out who did this, though, and have a little chat with them about using magic to pull stupid pranks.]

[She opens the door at the knock, and notes the bundle of fabric over Caster's arm before she steps back and invites her inside.]

Oh, good evening. [ Before she enters, she goes through the motions ingrained into her after living in Japanese society for quite some time. She smiles in greeting, lingers back to add: ]

Please excuse me, then. [ Afterwards, she enters. She knows that it isn't complete, and she's missing a few of the gestures. However, this was, essentially, Canada, and she wasn't even certain whether the young lady was accustomed to those mannerisms. ]

So, I hope this will be to your liking, ah...Miss Celes? [ She utters her name inquisitively, only having her open exchange on the NV to base it off. ]

[ At the same time, she gently slips the fabric from her arm, unfolding it with both hands to reveal a white cloak, trimmed with silver lining. As promised, she had tailored in two, slender openings for the wings. Since she wasn't a seamstress, the edges of the gaps weren't completely even, but they weren't blatantly noticeable. At the very least, she felt confident that they wouldn't cause any problems when worn. ]

[Celes actually tilts her head at all these mannerisms. She's not native to this world, and though she'd travelled extensively in her own, conquerers tend not to worry about local customs. And even with the Returners, she'd had other things to concern her.]

You don't have to call me "Miss." Just Celes is fine.

[She politely takes the cloak, and in all honesty, she rather likes it. A white cloak was not uncommon garb for her back home.] Thank you. [It's a little awkward to put on, but she manages to do it without undue trouble. Having a little more fabric covering her feel rather nice.]

[ Having grown accustomed with having someone tell her that the formal address was unnecessary, Caster simply inclines her head in proper acknowledgment and acquiescence. When she expresses appreciation, it easily yields another smile onto her lips. ]

You're welcome. [ A brief pause as she studies the magic enchanting it, but she quickly decides to keep her thoughts undisclosed on it. ] Oh, by the way, my name is Caster. It is good to meet you...[ Another temporary pause as she reminds herself to omit the 'Miss'. ] ...Celes.

Given the day and timing of this costume that you have on involuntarily, I have a feeling that it will only last until the end of Halloween, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. [ She speaks gently, soothingly, in an effort to sound reassuring. ]

[Besides the formality of it, the appellation of "Miss" just seems so feminine, and it's not something Celes generally regards herself to be.]

Caster. That's something of an unusual name. [Sounds more like a title or a profession to her.] It's good to meet you as well.

[A part of her wants to turn up her nose as the soothing tone; she doesn't need to be placated like some child. But she's learned manners and tact to some degree, and stops herself. Caster is just trying to be helpful.] Perhaps. Though it galls me to see magic used for such a frivolous reason. [Forcing people into costumes? Seriously?]

It really is a waste. [ After all, a veritable magus always made an effort against expending more mana than necessary. ] But I see that you're familiar with magic. Is that commonly used in your world?

[action] runebladeknight November 4 2011, 23:36:20 UTC
It's not common. Until recently, it hadn't been used in a great many years.

[Her gaze abstracts a little bit, as though recalling something sad.] Magic isn't something that humans can attain on their own where I'm from; it's the province of Espers, and long ago, there was a war that nearly destroyed the world before the Espers took it upon themselves to move to another realm and seal it off from all others.

[Her voice gets more bitter here.] But then the Empire, which sought to conquer every last inch of the world, found a way in, and kidnapped Espers for experiments on how to weaponize magic and also how to impart it to humans. It would give them an advantage no other army could boast.

[A soft snort of disgust and she looks down at her hand.] My own ability is because of the infusion of an Esper's essence into my body. It had to die for me to be able to do what I can do.
