[As much as this is a difficult post to make, Re-l's voice is firm and unwavering in its delivery throughout, as though the news doesn't affect her any more than the other gruesome things that occur every day.]Miles Edgeworth has disappeared from Siren's Port. He didn't call into work on Sunday and his NV has stopped working as of Monday morning. A ( Read more... )

[ He's had time to process this, but the news doesn't get any easier to hear. He's said what little he has to say about the subject: there's no sense in offering any more empty platitudes. ]

I can help you move some of his things, if you wish.

I don't know how much there will be to move besides case files. Those'll take the most amount of work.

[She's going to want copies of everything to make sure that nothing happens to the people he was defending. She wants them to get the best possible attorney to help them.]

That much paperwork will be a hazard to move. [ It's a dry observation. ] It might be a good idea to have backup.

I'd appreciate it. It'll take a long while for me to go through most of it, though. I think I'm going to take most of the boxes back to my place tonight and then move the rest tomorrow.

[ Quietly: ] If she's all right with it, I think Miss von Karma would make a good addition to the committee. If not, I can help with administering it until we can find someone to permanently fill the position.

[ There are other, more personal observations she could make about Edgeworth's disappearance, but it doesn't seem to be appropriate to offer them here. ]

I appreciate it, Yako. I'm not sure if she'd like to step in, even temporarily, but we'll see what we can do. We haven't had a meeting in a while, anyway.

We should probably arrange a schedule for that. Do you think it would be better to have it sooner, or after we've sorted out all of the paperwork?

I think that's up to Raul but there'll be no paperwork for the NPP to fill out, I assure you.

I... am sorry for your loss. If you would like to talk, I am here.

[It's hard for him to say because HE HAS NO FEELINGS.]

Thanks. I appreciate it.

[ But he notices this, and notes Re-l's change of mood. And also shelves away his own personal feelings about it.

[This is why I was hesitant to see you so attached to anyone...

Even if Edgeworth was the last person I ever thought would- if in any way, than certainly by someone's foul play, but simple disappearance? Like anyone else who has 'gone home'?

And what can I say to you now, Re-l?

How do I even feel about the Prosecutor, gone?

It was just about a year ago now, since they'd watched her together across a crowded, masked room- "She's beautiful, isn't she?"

He regrets having never quite gotten along with the man, outside of their mutual professional interests. Miles Edgeworth was easily nettled, and atrociously argumentative...but there were many more qualities he'd found admirable.]

Seconding the motion, if she is amenable to the invitation.

She's expressed her doubts about the party's effectiveness and also about her own citizenship here, in the past. Without Edgeworth here, I'm not sure if her position can be persuaded to change.

I'll be home today, if you need anything-

We'll just need to see how she feels about it. I don't want to push her, but even a temporary stand-in is better than nothing at all, personally. It'll lighten the load until we can get someone else.

I'm fine. I'm going to go through his case files tonight and see who I can call about picking up the slack.

We've needed to put a heavier emphasis on recruitment anyway...

But I hope her time at SPU has instilled a stronger sense of civic duty.

Why should all of that fall to you? Let Diego sort through the casework- he probably knows more about which public defense attorneys are reliable.

I guess now's as good a time as any to do that.

[Private]

Because I work with the prosecution and defense offices as it is. I've been here longer than Diego, as well. He has work to do. The least I can do is get as much done as possible for him.
