[ It's been a while since Yako last posted on the network, and there's a lot she could talk about: the nightmares, friends who have passed on, detective work, how glad she is to be back in her own body. Instead, she's holding up a pumpkin to the camera, looking a little too cheerful. ]You know, I've never carved one of these before. Halloween isn't ( Read more... )

[Caster doesn't think that she'll take part in the activity of pumpkin carving when it wasn't quite her cup of tea, but there was no harm in offering a suggestion.]

Oh, perhaps you could combine it. Make time for both a film showing and that game involving ghost stories.

There's enough time, if it's going to be overnight anyway. [ Thoughtfully: ] I don't know a lot about what good Halloween movies are, though.

I'm afraid that I won't be much help there. [She lets out a soft chuckle.] I can't say that I know very many Halloween movies myself.

Do you know any classics? Usually, they're considered a 'classic' for a reason, so those might be your best bet.

"Classics" are usually the ones the most popular Halloween costumes come from. Dracula, Frankenstein... [ She trails off. ] I might have to do a little more research on this than I thought.

Would you like some help?

Well, I'd definitely appreciate anything that would make my job easier, but you don't need to go out of your way.

Don't worry. If I really did find it inconvenient, I wouldn't have offered. So, you just need more good Halloween movies, right? I'll try and see what I can find out.

By the way, we haven't had a chance to introduce ourselves yet. I am Caster, and you are...?

Yeah, that's about it! Just give me a list of the titles and I'll see if I can rent them out or something.

Oh, my name's Yako-- Yako Katsuragi. Nice to meet you, Miss Caster!

If it'll make things easier, I could see to renting them myself and personally bringing them to you. You just need them before the 30th?

[ Yako Katsuragi. Given her name, she had to wonder whether the girl was more accustomed with using Japanese suffixes for addressing other people. If so, it would be ironic when Caster did the same by substituting '-san' for the Canadian equivalent. ]

And likewise, Miss Katsuragi. Are you the only one working on this project?

Ideally, yeah. [ She grins, sheepishly. ] At least let me pay for the cost of renting them out-- it's the least I can do.

[ And really, Yako's used to switching between Japanese suffixes or their closest English equivalent depending on who she's talking to. It's more natural to drop into it with people with obviously Japanese names, but since she's consciously speaking in English most of the time... ]

I wouldn't call it a project, per say. It's just a small get-together. Kind of part of my job description, you know?

Oh, but paying for them myself really isn't a problem for me. You can consider it a gift, then.

[ A soft chuckle. ]

And what exactly is your job? [ Something to do with the Newcomer Community Center, she gathers, but she isn't completely sure. ]

I work as a newcomer caseworker for the city, under Re-l Mayer-- I help sort out places for them to live, get them jobs if they're having trouble finding any, and help them secure loans from the Newcomer Fund if they need it.

Other than that, I work to promote the Newcomer Political Party. We're kind of small, but as far as I know we're the only formal group to try and lobby the city government for better Newcomer representation.

You're quite productive with your time. That's rare to see these days. Oh, but there's something you mentioned that interested me -- this Newcomer Political Party. Are there any other details you could share with me about it?

I don't mind. We're probably due to get more publicity for it, anyway.

The Newcomer Political Party is a small organization-- currently headed by Raul Creed, though there are other members of the head committee as well. Our main goal is to help Newcomers integrate into Siren's Port as smoothly as possible. The eventual goal is to allow Newcomers to run as candidates in the general elections and give the Newcomer community a real bit of political force, but for now it's just trying to get people involved at all.

As an estimate, exactly how many people are involved in it currently?

If we're talking about permanent members, no more than ten. Counting the people involved in NPP events and helping out at the clinic, we're looking at anywhere between twenty to thirty individuals participating in the NPP in some way.

[ Not a lot, that's for sure, but any kind of consolidated group among the Newcomers is rare as it is. ]
