It's a terrible sort of joke. Even he could do better, and I hated his jokes.

So, how does it feel to be in a city without the Joker?

You're generous.

[Beat.]

I wouldn't go dancing in the streets just yet. Sometimes wariness is highly beneficial.

Well, that's the first time I've ever been told that.

[She makes a noncommittal noise in her throat.]

Lovely. I adore groundbreaking flattery.

[She'd never thought about it like that before.]

Is the truth your raison d'être, Mr. Nygma? Or riddles and games?

Must they be exclusive?

[It's phrased as a question, but it's most certainly an invitation.]

No, of course not. I don't think you can have one without the other, anyway.

Again, we find ourselves in agreement. Curious thing, isn't it? [Pause.] It's little wonder why so many seek to speak with you.

Flatterer. But I think most people talk to me because I can give them assistance.

In part, yes. I think their motivation is still selfish -- don't get me wrong -- but you know what to say, don't you? You listen.

Listening's better than talking. You find out all sorts of things.

[And you don't have to show your hand when someone else is giving you their life's story.]
