Uchiha Sasuke: Video

Apr 10, 2010 19:46

[It's either laundry day, or Sasuke's begun emulating Itachi even further now that Naruto's disappeared, and the threadbare ties to Konoha have begun to fade away along with him. It was foolish to bother thinking a few talks and battles, and a ratty couch could possibly symbolize a change. Itachi's spare Akasuki cloak hangs loose at Sasuke's ( Read more... )

[Hello Sasuke. Your big brother saw the video and he's coming to find you playing dress-up with his clothes]

[Arms folded]

Sasuke.

Itachi.

[He turns away and cuts the feed, focusing instead on his brother. His eyes narrow but his expression remains carefully blank. It's difficult anymore to read Itachi's expressions, his reactions, and how he'll respond to things. He used to know his brother very well, or - thought he did.

Itachi hated, Itachi sought to drive him on to avenge his clan, his own shattered childhood, Itachi sought to open his eyes to a deep and ugly corruption - or so he thought. Things weren't always what they seemed, and even here it's sometimes difficult to remember Itachi's still alive. Itachi's still with him and his ideals have changed, and Sasuke's meant to refocus and change with him.

He approaches his brother cautiously.]

What is it?

[ It's equally hard for Itachi to understand his own brother. He'd driven him to hate because he wanted him to become stronger, but he didn't really know who he was. He'd learned that in the months they'd lived together.

He made an almost offhand gesture at Sasuke, which could mean almost anything from the clothing to the video he'd just made. ]

What are you doing?

It was my understanding they started this. Or are we conveniently ignoring the murders and burying our heads in the sand?

Why isn't it up to you? People are dying, and you're suggesting we try to act diplomatic. Apologetic. Stand back and watch then, and complain about those who do something, but don't dare try to force those pathetic ideals on the rest of us.

If they attack me, I will fight back, and I will not lose.

[How do you address a video issued with such anger? Tifa's no expert, she doesn't get some of the underlying pain, not yet. But ranks need to be closed, and she won't see the boy left on his own.]

Measures are being taken to protect people. If you're interested in making sure no one else gets hurt, we would love to have you with us.

[She offers him what she hopes is a brave, reassuring smile.]

Groups to protect the people who can't protect themselves. Escorts for the day as well as the night, to protect against this serial killer and whatever other anit-newcomers may have sprung up.

I can't talk -too- much about it over the NV. But if you wanted to meet I can give you the rundown.

[Maybe it's how consistently calm she's being, or the fact his angers already begun to fade - but Sasuke's listening. Grudgingly as it is. He lifts a brow silently and considers her words, then mentally shrugs. Why the hell not? If nothing else, this will give him a better idea of what the newcomers are doing to protect their own, as misguided as it might be.]

Fine. Where?

Why ...?

[The question is a ridiculous one to him and sends the set of his shoulders rigid in outrage. How dare Kakashi ask him why, as if it weren't perfectly obvious? Hadn't he been looking for that idiot all this time, and hadn't he stated it here obviously enough?

Or maybe Kakashi believes Naruto is simply missing, being quiet and holed up somewhere. That level of monstrous naivety and faith sickens him and balls his fists up, adding a darkness about the eyes that isn't ... healthy.

He won't feel grief. He won't give into sadness or pain, he'll direct it instead to anger. Anger can be honed and focused into action, sorrow only weakens. He won't be weak!]

He's gone. I have no reason to continue with the promises I made him. It was a complete waste of time.

He'll be back.

[ Kakashi says this like it's the truth, because it is.

He has no doubt that Naruto will return, will come back with the same determination that he had before. He was always running towards Sasuke's turned back, with Kakashi watching him. And now that he had found Sasuke, had managed to get Sasuke to turn around to look at him, to accept parts of him that Sasuke never would've accepted before -- no, Naruto could never leave that behind. Could never forget what was so important to him. He had merely found a way out of here, but the problem finding a way out is finding a way back. Kakashi has no doubt in his mind that Naruto is trying just as hard to get back as he was trying to get out.

Because this is what Naruto is like. This is who Naruto is. It is his ninja way, and Naruto has never gone back on that ( ... )

I don't care what that idiot believed in. His belief and his faith wasn't enough to keep him here. He abandoned us - ['Just like you tried to do'-]

Or else got himself killed.

[He tosses his head and glares scornfully at the feed, his voice tightening.] I'm not going to be that sentimental, if he's not here his shit has no business taking up space in my house. If you want what's left then come for it before it burns.

I'm not searching for him anymore.

[He'd already spent too much of his time not-worrying over where Naruto had gone. And that sick churning feeling in his gut that intensified with each new body ... no. He'd harden himself to it, so when a body was found with bright blue eyes gone dull and grey and a manic smile he'd never see again -

He wouldn't care. He refused to let himself care. He'd switched it off before and he'd damned well remember how, and do it again. He wouldn't allow anything to hurt him like losing family hurt him, no matter what the cost.]

It is the same fear and loathing that is always borne from misunderstanding.

What do you hope to accomplish by provoking such ignorant individuals?

I want to know why they're attacking and what it is that instigated this. Something provoked them long before I spoke up.
