First [video]

[The video flips on, revealing a brief glimpse of a human form lying unconscious on the baseball field--some poor Greeter who Moody immediately Stunned by reflex upon arrival. If you paused the shot, you might see that he'd caused a fair number of burn marks and charred stains in the area, as well ( Read more... )

[SO AMUSED.]

Anyone who's got a bit of proper vigilance wouldn't turn down a tool to gather intelligence.

[Are you sassing him, whoever this is.]

Not if that tool involves exposing yourself in turn. Seems like this thing gathers more unintelligence than the other way around.

[A little, yes. Arrogant smug bastard is his default.]

If you are unfamiliar with it yes.

[He dumps a code with makes the replies unhackable to a high level - 85% - but uses a different one to encode the message.]

This makes your message fairly difficult to read if it's not sent to you.

[After some experimental tinkering -- apparently this code does not blow up the the NV -- he accepts it and responds under the encryption, though fully untrusting.]

Useful. Why?

[Did you give it to him, that is.]

You have a look I recognize. In your stance and bearing. One I am willing to place a small measure of trust in, and grant what I would term a professional courtesy - allowing you a measure of private contact for those here who respect no private business.

[He's older - looks fifty until you look at his eyes, which are far, far older. He looks a little amused, a faint smirk playing over his face, the background a dull greyish wall.]

Unless, of course, you are familiar with the art of misinformation.

[Moody will reserve judgment on him for now., despite the smugness which he doesn't much like.]

Dangerous game. Sometimes necessary, but better not to give anything away at all.

Of course. But that isn't really an option.

Do tell Jack Michael says hello, I assume you both are still talking privately.

Apparently not here, anyway.

[Won't tell him anything of the kind, but he reads the encoded message next.

Good answer. It mostly conveys to Moody that, whether it's the truth or a lie, that this man is dangerous. He continues:]

So you're Michael. And what do you do, Michael? Assume you've protected this conversation already, given your respect for private contact.

No, not here.

[He assumes he won't. But it's his way of saying 'MINE and I'm watching.']

I am, yes. I'm a doctor, at least in this life. And yes, I have.

A doctor. That's a ... [About to say 'Muggle', but if this man is a Muggle, best not to say anything about it.] A Healer. Right.

Most Healers I know don't know too much about the art of misinformation. [Which very quickly leads to...]

So who or what do you fight for?

makes_asteroids September 18 2011, 05:10:05 UTC
A Healer, yes.

[He takes a breathe, and nods slightly - when he speaks, it's without the faint, and false, Oxford-area accent, a mimicry of Charles'. There's a faint Israeli-English accent, but otherwise very clean.]

Most didn't learn medicine in combat. Or in hunting the perpetrators of that combat. I fight for my people. Of late, that has been Genosha, Israel before that.

[He doesn't know the name Genosha, of course. He recognizes the change in accent immediately, though. Curiouser and curiouser.]

You sound like you've had more than your fair share of experience.

[He knows he's not good enough to fool a native. In private, why bother?]

The twenties was an interesting time to be born.

Though I have no doubt the same is true for you.

Yeah? And I was just about the right age to watch the war in the forties, too.

[Which isn't giving away too much, but is a prompt, more or less.]
