[Here's a face the network hasn't seen in...forever. In the background, one might see computer parts and what appears to be a hideous monstrosity of science and computer engineering.]

...I've neglected this of late. But I'm curious...just how many are foolish enough to put their faith in a spell for love? Even if such spells were reliable, it's ( Read more... )

You mean that was a real advertisement? I thought someone was playing a rather elaborate joke, honestly.

[Here, have a rather bemused mage that's just shaking his head.]

Been a while Naoya - are you well?

I have been...merely working on some personal hypotheses I hadn't the time to test in my own world.

[Naoya is the picture of somewhat sinister amusement right now, all sharp smirks and radiated smug.]

It'd be nice to believe it a joke, but I don't have that much faith in people.

That's a rather dour outlook on humanity as a whole.

[That look was just a little too reminiscent of a certain mastermind schemer for Fai's tastes. It was quite unexpected given the rather amiable perception of the man he's had until now.

Then again, Fai's only too aware that he's not exactly the best judge of character. Which is why he just smiles pleasantly and arches a brow.]

Dare I ask if your hypotheses proved true?

I'm too old to think much else. [He shrugs, looking...well, all of mid-twenties. Hardly old enough for that sort of cynicism.]

...A few of them. There were some unexpected results, but nothing I can't work with.

...you don't even look as if you've hit your first century yet - you can't be that old.

[His gaze flickers to the mess behind the other and back, just a glance.]

Trying to combine magic and technology?

[...Naoya blinks a moment, and then laughs. Ah, he should have expected that. Life spans aren't nearly the same in every world, such is to be accounted for. How complacent of him to forget...] Oh, you're more observant than I realized.

Try six-thousand. [He'll just continue to feed Fai random pieces of the puzzle. The objective is to always be three steps ahead of whatever he might work out.]

Years, or centuries? [A pause as he arches a brow. Piece by piece, he'll put the puzzle together, without asking for much himself along the way.] There is a considerable difference, though by that point I don't suppose it matters as much.

As for being observant... I suppose we all have those moments occasionally, hm?

Years...humans haven't existed quite that long.

But my age is a bit of a tricky subject, please understand.

Well...you never know, what with all the different dimensions there are, or the flow of time.

[He smiles at that, then lets his eye slide away, off to the side as he nods.]

It's okay, I understand, Naoya. Age can be a complex thing for people and really... it's not my place to ask such things.

[And then he laugh and glances back up, offers a small smile.]

But the attempt at fusing technology and magic? That I'd love to hear about, if you have a mind for discussing it.

I've succeeded in doing it before. I'm refining the practice, as it were. But I wouldn't mind discussing the details.

Soon then, hm? Maybe when you're a little less busy or not expecting company.
