[ Ella is a busy woman this week. The NV turns on this time to the interior of a store - one that sells a myriad amount of knick knacks, from decorative glasses to vases of all kinds, clocks, candles, etc. Ella is standing in front of a shelf with a crate of roughly 2 dozen apples balanced carefully against her hip, her arm grasping the handle of

The one on the left will suit her tastes far more.

Her who? These are for me.

Ella-san, you are not a woman who cannot decide which vase to buy.
[So don't treat him like he's idiot.]

You'd be surprised. I'm also not a woman who will walk into a store and grab the first thing she sees, buy it and go.
[ She waffles over lots of things! ]

I would never assume so. However, you do have the strength of your convictions, as you have shown time and time again. People's opinions would have little influence, if you truly were buying for yourself.

Byakuya - [ She laughs faintly. ]
I only asked what vase looked more expensive, not which vase I should buy. If I were buying for Hattie I probably would have picked up that hideous one you were pointing out.
[ Er... ]
I mean, because it seems more Hattie's style. Although I suppose I ought to pick one up for her - but I would sooner kiss a harpy than have something that ugly in the house.
[ She erks again, this time overheard by one of the sales people, and she eeps, holding up both hands to one of them. ]
Sorry sorry! I didn't mean Ugly, I meant... unique!

Ella-san, you would not care which looked more expensive, from what I observed.
[He's more than amused that she's stuck her foot in her mouth again with the salespeople. Because he's a jerk like that.]
The word you're looking for is garish.

If I didn't care, I wouldn't have asked, now would I? I like nice things. I just like finding a deal better.
[ She stifles a laugh. Garish was exactly the word she had in mind. ]
The word I'm looking for is tactful. The last thing I need is for them to raise the price because they're offended that I think their garish vases are garish.
Hii, yeah, no they're lovely. Absolutely a marvel to behold.
[ That last to someone who was approaching to see if she needed any help. Ella mildly waves them off. Go away peon. ]

Yet you did not ask which was more pleasing, but which looked more expensive.
Tact is something very few can afford; yet honesty is free.
[Because what is tact? He sure as hell doesn't have it.]

On that note, the same could be said of the expensive vases. That's the lovely thing about opinions. I don't have to agree with them, but I can poll them out of curious.
[ She shakes her head. ]
And I'll have to disagree with that. Tact is a thing anyone can afford, as much as honesty. Whether or not they employ it is their own decision.

I never said you would agree with it. Merely pointed out what you actually asked.
Tact is a tool to be used, as much as honesty. However, those who can afford to use it, generally don't.
[Ya know, like him.]

I was explaining, not suggesting you said I would agree with it. [ She pauses, signalling a salesperson to pull down a fairly expensive vase in looks and price. ] Not that I have to.
[ And vaguely amused. ]
That is what I said. [ A shame more people didn't use tact - she'd find them more tolerable. But as she looked over the new selection, she hm'd. ]
Anyway, you appear quite busy, and I am too, so I'll get back to picking vases and you can get back to your grading.
