[Strangely, for those who may have been watching the feed is at first positively blank. Black, with a hint of subtle light, and the sound muffled-as though a cloth or some sort of cover had been carefully pressed over it in order to keep the contraption concealed for some unknown, secretive purpose.
A faraway voice can be heard, if slightly off in

Happy Birthday. I hope you're having a good celebration.
[Though she imagines he is.]
You should have told me. I would have sent you something earlier.

[His hair is somewhat tousled, and his collar unclasped. He's only in his shirtsleeves for once, without the usual coat. Yeah, they've been having a little...too much fun.]
I suppose it slipped my own mind, after all that's been happening.
Abraham took me by surprise when I came home from work and cornered me in the kitchen with a cake. It looked so delicious I wasn't sure if I should eat it or frame it.
[Laughing softly.]
It's quite all right, honestly. Your sentiments are appreciated just as well.

[She chuckles lightly, though. She's glad he's having a good time and that his mentor went to some lengths to make his birthday special since she didn't know about it.]
Well, still. I had no idea you were thirty, either.

[He runs his fingers through his hair a bit distractedly, clearing his throat.]
Oh? Why might that be?

[She glances to the side for a moment and gives a wry smile at her paperwork, though the stacks of files can't be seen.]
I thought you were younger. Twenty-five, twenty-seven at most.

Really? That's..a fair assumption.
[Trying hard to keep a straight face..So hard. Even he himself didn't belief it. He covers his mouth for a moment to compose himself, flushing slightly-he's not used to being on the camera for the time being. While normally John is resolute and calm, he is in effect at a polar opposite in mood.]
Actually, I'm rather flattered, Miss Re-l. Though I'm curious as to why you'd come to that conclusion so readily.

Raul's thirty and he keeps talking about being old and such. Romdeau citizens don't last very long in life.
[Especially when they cause as much trouble as the two of them do. There's a brief and fleeting smile, amused, before it widens just a little at his expression.]
Anyway, it was just an assumption.

Is that so? I would have thought the advances in science there that Doctor Yumeno speaks so highly of would have at least permitted longevity.
[Unsurprisingly the life expectancy in England from his time was not much higher, either. On average it hovered around somewhere in the 40's region for men. But that in part was due to the lack of medical science back then. Why was Romdeau different in that respect if it was as advanced as Yumeno says?
He'll let that be an idle curiosity though. He was more inclined to amuse himself in other ways tonight. Perhaps the Port was making him a bit giddy or had given him a sort of false bravado, for he takes on a somewhat smoother disposition than usual.
Seward studies Re-l's expression for a moment before he gives a somewhat mischievous smirk.]
Assumption? Is that all? I would've thought you'd taken to flirting if I didn't know any better.

It wasn't the technology. It was just that failure meant death in the eyes of our society. Or banishment, anyway, but you'd die within a week outside of the dome. Besides, he was a Security Chief. They don't last long.
[Which is why she's adamant on making sure the bastard actually leaves to reach a decent age. She's sick of his ridiculousness, calling himself old and making it out to seem like he's going to keel over one day.
It's nonsense.
His comment makes her blink once in surprise and she leans forward in her seat, putting her chin in her palm. Her smile is almost secretive.]
If you didn't know better.

[Dome..? Security Chief? It's clear he knows very little about Romdeau, but he'd be rather interested in hearing more...Until, that is, he was distracted by a certain pair of eyes. Of course it doesn't take much to distract a fine young gentleman, especially if the lady in question is an engaging one.]
Oh. I-

A soft cough and he turns to the screen with a slightly cocked brow, fiddling with his vest a bit while attempting to smooth the silk.]
Why, Miss Re-l! I believe you're only teasing me. But somehow I think I like it.

[Or slightly inebriated. It's not the first time she's been around or talking to someone who's tipsy, but he's probably the most humorous. Maybe it's because he doesn't typically show so much in his face or in his eyes. The change is fascinating and somewhat welcome, if only because she often worries that he takes things far too seriously in his life.
Re-l laughs quietly.]
Maybe I am. It's your birthday, after all. What's a little fun between friends, especially when I don't have a gift for you? [Yet.]

[A small hitch there at the end. On average Seward was your typical English goody two-shoes...Or so a number of people here might believe. He simply possessed the curious habit of being absolutely resolute and calm. Not so this night! To-night he was merry with drink. And yes, she's quite right. What dignified man didn't take things this seriously?]
Ah, you needn't worry yourself.~ But I suppose I endure over a little merrymaking now and again.
