[ Hattie is staring right into her NV, then takes a number of steps back so she can be seen from the waist up, revealing that she's in a department store of some sort, with Ella by her side carrying a number of shopping bags- 4 to be exact, and she looks almost bored out of her mind in contrast to Hattie's giddy excitement.  There's a bit of ( Read more... )

[Her tone is amused, revealing nothing else. Her body language matches ... but someone very good at reading it might pick up suppressed worry and anger. Anyone who knows her well has a pretty good guess how she's feeling.]

You should consider applying for a job as a merchandise scout. It's hard work but you'd love it.

[Hattie is a mixed bag when it comes to reading body language. She isn't picking up anything negative at all this time around. However, she doesn't appear to be very excited about the suggestion. 'Scout' didn't sound very flattering, and hard work? No way!]

O- Oh. You think so? I'm not overly familiar with that line of... labor. What would the job entail?

You run around most days going to all sorts of places which make the sort of items that a store sells; presumably, in your case, clothes and accessories. They show you samples of what they're making at the moment, or what they could make if they had an order for them. You take photographs - video probably here, actually - of everything, even if it looks horrible, you inspect the quality of everything, and you make notes to remember things later.

Then on some days you go into an office, write a report describing everything, give it to the merchandise manager, and answer questions. He or she looks over reports from several merchandise scouts, talks to interior designers, and decides what the store should buy from the wholesalers to put on the shelves.

It would have to be a store which stocked the sort of goods that your tastes run to. Personally, my tastes are quieter, but I've seen stores for the younger set which might be appropriate. [Somebody has to select goods for those stores....]

[Hattie quietly ponders the words; that sounds like an awfully annoying amount of work to her. Worse comes to worse she probably could get 'someone' to transcript for her.

And while she wasn't keen on working under a manager, maybe, just maybe, it could bear fruit. It was time for the dealbreaker question.]

I wasn't aware people were paid for that. Do you think it would make me famous?

[In a quietly amused tone:] No, I'm afraid not.

[In a more serious tone:] If you want to become famous in fashion, the two routes I can think of are fashion designer and fashion model. [She purses her lips.] Photographer might be a third, but that tends to be a fairly specialized form of fame.

Oh.

[She tries not to look too disappointed. This is less of a task upon the other suggestions given to her. In fact, her eyes light up.]

Really! That's quite fascinating, thank you very much! I will be sure to look into all three, of course.

[How hard could it be? After a moment of thought, she has another question, however.]

If I may ask, what is it you do? You look like a model.

Thank you, but I've never been a model. [Though in some ways stripper is fairly close.] I've done a bunch of things, teacher and businesswoman most often.

At the moment, I'm being an accountant for Lion's Gate and the Newcomer Political Party; managing Eisenhardt Jewelry -- that's custom-made jewelry to the customer's design; and occasionally helping teach Newcomers to use their powers. Oh, and being a busybody on the network. None of them are going to get me famous, but some of them pay well and the rest are emotionally satisfying.

[Her brows raise; it should be easy to tell which part caught her interest.]

Jewelry? You're a manager for a jewelry store? That's amazing!

It sounds like you're involved in so much, however, I really have no idea how you can keep up with it all but it's quite impressive. And, well, if it makes you happy, then I don't really have any room to judge..

[And considering she's quite a judgeing is a significant part of her life, that could be considered a gesture of respect.]

Either way, thank you very much for your information, it was quite valuable for me- I'll be certain to stop by Eisenhardt Jewelry, of course~.

Yes, I'm managing a jewelry store. We're still running it out of a spare room in my apartment building while we accumulate stock to open a storefront with. It's custom jewelry only -- we have jewelry boxes and the like there for sale, but we don't have jewelry in stock. What we do have is a very good hologram design program, and the customers explain what they want and we use the program to get an exact description, and the jewelers quote a price for exactly the item you've designed.

By all means come, if you'd like. [She gives an address.] The building is good, the neighborhood not so much so; I won't be offended if you decide not to come. I should warn you that while are prices on the jewelry are good, very good if you don't insist on natural gems, they're good for custom jewelry, which is not anything to shop for on a budget. On the other hand, if you're looking for jewelry boxes, polishing equipment, et cetera, we're not paying storefront rent, so our markup is low.

[There were a number of questionable notes there. The key words for Hattie were 'not anything to shop for on a budget'. Well. Now she -had- to own something there, didn't she?

Perhaps with a guard; which wasn't out of the question for her either. She gives a bright smile.]

Oh don't you worry, I will be there one way or another. I don't think we have anything like that from my old home.

By the way, I'm Hattie!

I'm Emma Frost. I'll tell the staff to let you copy a hologram or three onto your NV. If the experience is new, I hope you enjoy it.

[Emma opens a customer reference for Hattie on the store computer and adds a few flags.]

Yes it will. And thanks again, I'm sure I will! Hopefully we'll meet again soon, Emma. Take care now~.
