Hello! My name is Elaine Mallory, of Dresden & Mallory Investigations. I just wanted to welcome to any newcomers, and extend an invitation to those of you who may be struggling with new powers to give Harry or myself a call, or stop by our office. We are more than willing to help you learn to cope with and safely control your "magic."

We would also ( Read more... )

Hello, Ms. Mallory. My name is Emma Frost, from the immediately prior wave of newcomers. I have many years of experience in my world training people - mostly teenagers - to handle unusual powers, and I'm certainly willing to do so here. You'll probably also be hearing from my friend Dr. Michael Xavier, who is also from my world and has done similar training.

In our world the powers we train (with rare exceptions) are not magical; magicians tend to be more versatile.

Personally, I'm a telepath, so I have an edge in training mind-related powers, even if the details differ. Michael is a kinetic, so has an advantage training people in powers which involve moving energy or objects around, again even if the details differ. Both of us can train other forms of power; in fact, the majority of our students have had powers unrelated to ours.

[OOC: Gah, so much of what Emma does is against the Laws of Magic from Harry and Elaine's world....]

[ooc: so much of what HARRY has done in the second to last book...]

Welcome to Siren's port. I've been here for several months now, myself, but it's a big city, so I'm still working on establishing the kind of support network that Harry and I were working to build back home.

I am certainly willing and intrigued to learn what the similarities and differences might be between various abilities.I have some telepathic ability, but usually only with people I have a strong emotional link as well.

[OOC: Yes, well. It'll be interesting seeing how Harry manages being the Winter Knight in combination with not using magic to kill.]

I can tell you which abilities are often found in conjunction with others in my world, but I don't know about other worlds.

If you wish, we can discuss telepathic tips and tricks. It can be useful to test your shields against someone who isn't actually trying to take over your mind before relying on them in an emergency.

[As long as he can avoid killing anything but monsters and villains, he should be safe-ish? idk!]

Yeah...I'm not a big fan of having my mind taken over, so any tips on shielding in that regard would be much appreciated.

Hello Ms Mallory. I'm Dr. Michael Xavier - I've had many years of experience with student who have powers, as does Ms Emma Frost. We've shared students on one occasion. While we have had students with magical abilities, most of our students haven't had them. We are, of course, willing to assist any who need it.

Thank you for contacting me, Dr. Xavier. I believe Harry had mentioned your name when we were discussing the possibility of a support network here, like the one we had set up back home, and we'd certainly appreciate your expertise.

You're quite welcome. Harry was working with one of my grandsons, while he was here, for which I am grateful.

Harry's a good guy, like that.

Hey, that's a really useful thing you're doing there. There's been people on the network lately posting about getting new powers here and that kinda stuff. They're gonna be the ones who'll need the help the most.

Thank you, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks so. Hopefully, if enough people respond, I'll be able to match up the newcomers with someone experienced in the appropriate field. Or at least let people know they don't have to tough it out alone.

I'd offer to help out if I could, but I don't think I'd be much good at teaching other people. But yeah, friends are always good!

That's all right. I'm sure you'll find something else that you are good at. And you're still more than welcome to give us a call if you ever need a wizard on your team.

[Someone is tentative about this, even if it's the right thing to do.]

I sincerely doubt there will be any call for it, but if you get any shapeshifters or someone with enhanced senses, feel free to give me a call.

[Elaine has been there! She understands.]

I will keep my eyes and ears out. How have you been?

[Groan.]

Bad joke, Elaine. I've been alright. Working a lot. Have to go see about some poor guy's truck today. How's things with you?

[Wry laugh.]

Sorry, I guess I've been around Harry for too much of my life. Things are all right, though. Between investigations, and my reiki practice, the bills get paid more or less on time, and it's nice not to have to live out of the back of the office.

Hey, namesake -- My name's Elaine too. You know Harry? I didn't know he had a partner-in-crime.

Hello, Elaine! We got separated for a while, but Harry and I have been partners-in-crime since we were about 12, actually.

Wow! You go that far? You must be joined by the hip, no matter how long you were apart.

Well, you know. It's kind of a long story, but we went through a lot, together. The kind of stuff that will either make you or break you.
