[ if you're anywhere near the baseball diamond that afternoon, you might notice something a little like a clap of muted thunder, and if you're at all sensitive to such things, you might very well notice an extremely overwhelming presence that just as abruptly-- disappears a moment or two afterward ( Read more... )

[ She knows the exact moment when he arrives -- It takes her a nanosecond to feel Dog beside him. The whys and whats and hows fade in her mind before they emerge. She has gotten used to surprises. ]

[ She appears nearby and walks towards him. She's the visual opposite: dark, black hair and eyes, but features cut by the same celestial wood. She's tempted to appear his age for a moment, but weights the options against it. ]

Hi, Adam. [ She waves at him with a bright smile than turns at his companion. ] Hi, Dog.

I'm Elaine.

[ he smiles brightly at her, then ducks to take the ball from dog, tossing it for the hellhound-turned-mutt. ]

Hey, Elaine. 'S nice t' meet you. [ a pause, glancing back up at her again, expression serious for a few moments. ] I don't think I've ever had a cousin b'fore.

[ dog comes racing back with the ball in his mouth, tail wagging, and adam takes it to throw it again. ]

A bunch of us are here, huh?

Me neither. I didn't think it was possible. [ Elaine can only picture Mazikeen-stand in as Adam's mother. ] But I'm open to new experiences.

[ She waits until the dog returns with the ball. She nods at his question. It makes her concern about the Port increase. She already feels she can wipe everything out if she exhales too hard. ]

Sort of. With various degrees of friendliness.

[ It already worried her that there were children here but the more of them that appeared the more worried she became. Putting her NV immediately to video, faces were often better at being calming presences than simply voices, Helen responded to him, a small friendly smile with her. It was a little odd how calm he was ]

Hello, Adam. [ She also happens to be English, fancy that ] My name's Helen. [ She'd never had to Greet a child before ]

[ beaming at her, he lifts a hand in a little wave. ]

Nice t' meetcha', Helen. [ there are some really interesting people here, he's already discovering. at least he won't be bored here. ] You're not Canadian.

[ Her smile widened, and she gave him a small nod in return ]

It's nice to meet you too. [ Interesting? Oh, she most certainly was that ] No, I'm not. I'm English, like yourself. I was brought here several months ago.

That's a long time t' be here. [ he tosses the ball for dog, watching him chase it before glancing back at the nv again with a grin. ] Do you like it here? There a lot of stuff t' do?

Cool dog. [An older boy's voice comes over the feed, but it's friendly in acknowledging the mutt, at least.] I'm Joe.

I don't know who you'll end up staying with- they'll let a kid have his own apartment at the towers for the month at the least, right? Talk to Himawari, she's a greeter, and she'd know.

Thanks! He's th' best dog in th' whole world.

[ he pauses at the information about the apartments, then gives a bright, dismissive grin. ]

Nah, it's okay! I've got family here, so we'll stay with one of them, prob'ly.

I would be a cruel, unscrupulous father indeed if I let my son walk the streets of an alien city.

[ the bright eyes in the screen narrow slightly, and for a second or two, adam looks like he might be about to end the feed right there-- but this.. is another version of his father, after all, so shouldn't he at least give him a chance? ]

An' you're not cruel an' unscrup'lous?

[ he crosses his arms, a brow arching. tiny antichrist is not yet convinced. ]

No more so than my Father before me, Adam.

[ He gives a little smile. ]

You'll find me much more obliging, however.

Sure, it's just Canada. But unless you're used to Canada attracting half the boogeymen you could dream of it oughta be interestin' enough. Company-wise, at least!

[ He thinks that if Port can keep his interest satisfied this long it can do the same for anyone. Not an assumption he probably ought to make with Adam, but then he has zero sensitivity to these things. ]

[ he folds his arms, looking thoughtful for a few moments. ]

I dunno', I mean, I've got a pretty big 'magination..

[ the thoughtful look changes into a grin. ]

Then again, seems like there's lots've people here t' meet, an' Helen says people've got powers like superheroes!

Yeah, I heard that too. [ Slumped shoulders - someone's a little bitter they haven't developed the power of flight or invisibility overnight already. ] Ain't been here that long but it seems to hold up, from what I've seen. Predictin' the future and bringin' cats back to life and all kindsa things.

Predictin' the future's kinda' boring, don't you think? [ after all, what fun is life if you already know what's going to happen? it's partially why adam had stepped away from that whole 'destiny' thing, after all, and he and his grandfather seem to both be in agreement about it. ] You en't sorted out what yours is, yet?
