I apologize for being tactless to you the other day. I wasn't myself, but I'm sorry for any discomfort that might have been caused anyway.

[This post is forward-dated late, to after Darkness has fallen. The video feed is focused on Rin's window, with the backdrop being the street outside, where other monsters shamble and lope and undulate through the air. Of greatest interest are several Quelks moving ponderously over the glass, and Rin's voice reflects a certain amusement as she observes them.]
It's kind of nice when everything in the Darkness isn't horrible, isn't it?
[Her hand comes into the video and Rin taps the glass (through the bars securing the window) with a clean-cut nail. The Quelk directly on the other side of the glass where she tapped bends over to look at whatever disturbed it. Ater a pause, Rin moves her hand and taps the glass next to another little creature again - that one makes a surprised little motion, detaches from the glass, and falls up in a curled little bundle out of sight. Rin reacts with surprise.]

My name is Asano Rin. I know most of you don't know me. But this message is for the latest wave of newcomers. I know you'll all still be getting settled and adjusting...
You have a month for free in the Tower Apartments, and then you have to provide your own lodging. [A small sigh, and most of the humor leaves her voice.] I run a boarding house. Boys and girls, mm... and we have some rooms still open. Eight rooms to a floor, if you want to double up with a friend you can. We have a few spaces left for boys and a couple for girls.
It's a pretty decent space and some of you might like to consider it. Anyway, I -
[Whatever else Rin had to say is lost, as the fire hydrant sitting on the curb outside Rin's window seems to... split open, revealing jagged jaws. One of the flying parrotsquids visible through the feed is the unfortunate target of a very surprising attack: what's apparently a long, grey, whip-fast tongue which lashes out of the hydrant, punches straight through the parrotsquid as it flies by, and hauls the flopping creature neatly back into the faux hydrant's jaws. The hydrant closes its mouth. The parrotsquid is completely gone. Rin makes a soft noise of horror.
The feed captures her arm as she reaches up and drops the blinds. Then she leaves her NV, broadcasting shuffling noises and an unchanging image of the closed window as she paces around the room.]
