[Chuck has been hanging around the House of Awesome all day today- a rarity, for him, as he only returned to his apartment once or twice, but spent the rest of the day being almost social. Depending on the time of day and location, you'll find him either in his wheelchair or on a pair of crutches that he's named "Ke$ha" and "Beezlebub."
As he's trying to scale back the painkillers, he wound up with a killer headache that had him breaking out some booze early in the day. The dream combination led to this video post, that has him rubbing his chin thoughtfully and shifting semi-restlessly in his pimped-out, extremely cushy wheelchair.]
You know, out of all the people you think you'd miss- your ninth grade English teacher usually isn't high on the list.
Mrs. Thistle made us all memorize The Raven. Everyone else in my class hated it, but I actually loved it. There were these two stanzas- oh, man, I loved those. Loved. The wordplay was gorgeous and he made masterful use of repetition in his work. [He looks off to the upper left somewhere while he recites, then comes back to the camera after.] Prophet, said I, thing of evil - prophet still, if bird or devil! By the Heaven that bends above us, by that God we both adore-
It's interesting- Prophet, thing of evil. I never thought about it much when I was a kid? But... man.
And you know, it's actually interesting- Edgar Allan Poe's whole literary estate went after he died to a guy who hated him, and painted him as this complete depraved nutjob. That's still how we see him today, and all because of one man whose job it was simply to write. Nothing else- he wasn't supposed to editorialize, or lie, or distort may have once been the truth.
He was just a reporter, like me. Well, not exactly like me, but he changed the memory of someone great with a few forged letters, and that's it.
The more responsibility a person has, the easier it becomes to be completely irresponsible.
