- There’s a smaller article today on continuing developments at Versaid Lake. Having closed the Roxie Hart murder investigation, the Sector 6 police officer in charge of the case seems willing to close it as solved with two bodies recovered, and quickly bypass a full exploration of the lake. Contrary to witness reports of hearing a splash around 7am, Officer Greely assumes that the murderer, desperate to cover his tracks, foolishly rowed out into the lake before morning siren and was attacked by darkness creature. Due to the pressure of worried local residents, Greely seems anxious to “wrap things up” and get back to keeping the streets peaceful. A warning sign cautioning swimmers to stay out of the water remained posted at the lakeside, however.

However, an intrepid team of Hillsdale students have been granted special permission from the university to skip out on freshman orientation this Saturday, borrowing sonar equipment from a professor in hopes of doing a new topographical scope of Versaid Lake’s bottom, it hopes of seeing if any new pockets may have opened up in the lake’s bed during the recent earthquake. Citing the recent discovery of a reopened old mine shaft in Sector 9, as well as the natural caverns which form the structure housing the Underground mall, they hypothesize that recent sighting of air bubbles and lack of fish in the lake may be explained by natural air pockets in the island’s rocky foundation which have opened up, or new underground waterways leading to underground sources of brackish water, which might be killing off freshwater fish .

- Groundbreaking begins today on Xino E. Mao’s urban development project in Sector 9, although the company’s local contributions in response to Earthquake relief, cleanup and darkness proofing have already spent most of the budget intended for a full community center and shelter. After re-prioritizing to address immediate neighborhood security needs first, the project has not been completely deterred, and plans have changed somewhat to turn the overgrown lot into a playground, basketball court, and skate park.
