Day 517; [video]

Aug 19, 2011 20:05

[Around sunset, the feed clicks on to show part of Siren's Port's skyline as seen from the top of a medium-tall building in Sector 3. After a moment, the camera tilts down and to the left to show a small pile of white paper airplanes. The camera follows along as a black-gloved hand selects one and tosses it off the building.

The video shows the airplane gliding gently on the breeze, down and down and down until distance and the wind carry it out of sight. Instead of speaking, the 'pilot' takes another plane and tosses it as well, and repeats the sequence several times. This goes on for about five minutes before he's down to one airplane. But instead of throwing it, he turns the camera to show himself bathed in the red and gold light of the day's end.]

This is kind of fun.

[He holds the airplane up like it's something new to him.]

I never made one of these before, but I was walking through the park today and a little kid asked if I wanted to make these with him. I didn't have anything else to do after work, so I did. His were better, but I think I did okay.

It's been a long time since I got to fly for real. Coming up here with them seemed like the next best thing.

[After a moment, he turns the camera again, showing the most brilliant colors of the sunset between the buildings, scarlet streaks of light broken up by shadows.]

I don't know much about science or weather or anything, but a friend of mine told me about why the sun sets red once. It's not because the sun is hot or because of magic or anything. He said light's made made up of lots of colors, and red's just the one that travels the farthest.

Not that I asked why. He's kind of a know-it-all.

I kinda wonder where he learned that now, though, if it was from school or something he read about because he was interested or what. I might ask about that part if I got the chance.

Ah, well.

[He goes quiet again, and tosses the last airplane. It catches a gust of air and soars practically straight for a long way until it's too far to be seen, like it might never have to land.]
