[005] Voice/Video

[The news about Shinji's death was a shock to the system, and it had taken a while for him to compose himself enough to speak on the network. The last few weeks had been stressful enough with Shinji's reactions to Yaha's death and right now, he simply needed out. Even if it was just for a little while ( Read more... )

Kimihiko?

[Here, have a concerned looking Fai, because there aren't too many people that he speaks to on a regular basis, so when someone that he does speak to appears to be having difficulties, he's going to speak up.]

Is there anything I can do to help? Aside from the offer I made earlier for the Port at large, I mean.

Ah- it's alright. Someone's helping me out. It's... not quite to do with the Earthquake, so there's no need for your power. But thanks.

[He manages a smile, although it's entirely false. Although if Fai is looking closely, he might see the blood on the walls and floor just out of sight. Kimihiko shifts the laptop just to make sure he can't get more than a slight glance.]

[Oh, he catches those darker splashes of color all right. His expression doesn't change more than a brief flicker of lashes before he offers a small, wry smile in return - utterly ignoring the fact that Kimihiko's smile looks rather brittle right then.

And when he speaks, his voice is low, almost gentle.]

...I wasn't just offering my magic. I was asking if there was anything I could do to help you. But I'm glad you have a safe place to go to.

[A beat. ]

It is a safe place, right?

It should be, I think. I haven't even seen it yet; I'm going to check it out tonight. [He glances away.]

...thanks. I appreciate it. But there's no need for concern. I'm... going to be fine.

[He feels like just laying his head down on his hands and shutting out the world for a week or two, but that would be just stupid. A shuddering sigh and he closes his eyes, relaxing as best he can.]

My best friend just died. [His voice is low and quiet.] That's... why I need to get out of here for a few weeks at the least. I'm not worried about danger.

Ah.

[He sighs at that and looks away for a moment - he's not quite sure, still, how he's supposed to react to other people's grief. It doesn't help that he's never had a 'best friend' save possibly Kurogane, but that term seems too simplistic for describing that insufferable ninja.]

I'm sorry for your loss.

[ Inadequate words, but sincere enough. Awkward. probably not what the young man wants to hear.]

If it turns out to not be, don't hesitate to come by my place. Just knock on the back door to the kitchens or cut around to the side of the building to the iron steps if the bistro's already closed. We live above it, so...

[He nods awkwardly, a little thrown off - at least in appearance. Odd, how easy it was to keep the mask in place this time. He supposed it helped that he didn't need to fake his distress. Losing Shinji had been a tough blow. If he hadn't come close to it before, he might not have been able to handle it so well.]

I'll keep it in mind. [A thoughtful pause.] Fai. When things have calmed down a little, let's go out for a drink or something. My treat.

[He just nods at that, because he's not so trusting as to explain why he can't actually drink anything. His gambit of showing Vincent his true nature was, in large part, a calculated risk - he didn't think the man would say much of anything about that moment to too many people.]

I'd like that, Kimihiko, once things settle down again.

[Kimihiko himself didn't usually drink; not out of any particular preference but so much as that drinking tended to be a social activity - and getting drunk tended to loosen one's tongue. But he nods.]

Nothing bad happened to you people during the quake, right?

Mmm, nope. We were fortunate. Had some things fall and break but no structural damage or damage to the darkness proofing.

[He just shrugs at that.]

Just proves it was a good idea to put some distance between us and the Core there.
