"Stand up in the darkness"? Well now you're just laying it on thick.

I've like to see you last ten minutes, out in the darkness.

So what's the word on Sam Merlotte, Prosecutor?

Oh for god's sake, it was a figure of speech.

I'm not handling individual slavery cases. As far as I know, he'll need to petition himself and possibly find a lawyer to represent him during the hearing.

Could someone else petition for him?

Yes. They would still probably want a lawyer. We struck a major blow against the legality of slavery, but there are still all kinds of loopholes to trip on if you go in blind.

...Mr. Edgeworth still hasn't even started it, right?

[This grumble might sound a little bit like betrayal]

We've both been busy. He just changed careers entirely. Try to cut him a little slack.

Well Sam changed "careers" entirely almost four months ago, and I can't believe none of you lawyers have had that bogus contract ripped up by now!

None of us prosecutors. Lawyers aren't all interchangeable. We don't represent clients.

And even if we did, can you imagine the pile of appeals that came in within days of the verdict last month? Every single one of those people deserves to have their contracts ripped up just as much as he does. Things have to be done with order.

But he's not even on any waiting list-

I heard in the news it could be years! That isn't fair at all!

Then he needs to go through the steps to get on a waiting list.

It's fair to the people who have already filed their appeals. If he wants to move up, he needs to find a good attorney who can file paperwork on his behalf to move him up the list. That's all we can do.

Then the second those auto-kill "collars" aren't allowed at all anymore...

I'm breaking him out of there myself.

So his owner can sue you for theft and his appeal can be caught up in red tape for years? Don't be stupid.

Worst case scenario, he'd be charged with escape himself, and AGI would buy his contract all over again.

None of your laws are any fair.

Of course the law is fair. That slavery is legal-- that is unfair, but breaking the law to get around it will do nothing but give slaveowners grounds to discredit us.

Why can't we discredit them! Now! Everything they arrested him for was fake!

Have him call a lawyer, kid. What else do you want me to do about it?
