[Throughout the day, as you go about your business, when you take a moment to check the network, you might be surprised to find...
drawings. Yes, drawings, all of them made with a
child-like scrawl. While you can't see the culprits, you can certainly hear them; there's laughing and giggling throughout the day and excited chattering. At one point, a little girl starts crying and complaining that
hers is ruined; one of the boys has scribbled over hers in an attempt to tease her.
Late in the afternoon, Alice's voice can finally be heard.]
You colored in my book! You have your own; you shan't use mine. [There are quiet giggles in the background.] Honestly...
[She rips them out and Alice can now clearly be seen. Her hair's gotten longer and her expression is much healthier. She's undergone an almost complete transformation in the past few weeks. When a certain Jabberwock arrived, her powers kicked on to defend her and her mind from possible trouble.
She brushes a piece of her long hair behind her ear.]
I do apologize for that. It seems these children are no different than those in the orphanage I worked for back home, for better or worse. [She frowns.] At least there's no coloring on the walls...but everything's been freshly painted and decorated. The man with all of the money, Mr. Herms, is responsible. It's quite kind of him, though he's gone through some considerable trouble since coming to the Port.
[She sits down, using her thumb to smudge away some of the crayon markings in her NV.]
Ms. Lamont - she runs The Four Winds - tells me that these children are worse than orphans. Those companies own the parents of these children but because they don't fall under the same contract as their parents, they can't take them. They have to stay here because they can't see their parents. What an awful idea. To have your loved ones so close... [She looks angry for a moment.] It's worse than home. I can't quite believe that this is allowed to continue and that so many people fall through the cracks. It's positively revolting.
[She stops when a small child calls her name and she quickly shuts the NV, an apology dropping from her lips just before she does.]
[Private → Dr. Crane]
If I could have a moment of your time, sir, I'd greatly appreciate it.
