What is a vampire?

[The man sat facing the video is dressed in deep red and black, his shirt unbuttoned about halfway to reveal an extremely pale swathe of chest. He is blonde, hair gelled back and smile liquid. Behind him is what appears to be a red curtain. My experience since arriving here is that every vampire is different. Many of you have ( Read more... )

[The bar doesn't catch her interest, but what does is something else... her voice is hush, low-- despite her looks, there is no innocence in her voice. It sounds more dead to the world.]

Vampires... are able to live that long?

It depends on the variety of vampire, but I am proof unliving that it is possible, at least for the vampires of our world.

A vampire must be, above all, adaptable to the world changing around him. Some of my contemporaries have gone mad, or else become so stuck in their ways that they appear rarely and keep mostly to themselves. It's an awful waste of eternal life.

I am not sure if that applies to my father and I.

[A raised eyebrow.] Madness, loneliness or age?

Age. Father and I have only lived a few years as sanguinarians. Yet we are from the 16th century-- from Wallachia.

You were ported out of history, rather than surviving into the modern age? Is that what you mean?

Yes, that is exactly what I mean.

How old are you?

Fifteen if I am not mistaken.

Interesting. That is fifteen all told? As a vampire and as a human?

Yes, sir. [She tilts her head a little-- wondering.] Father and I are not like the other Sanguinarians we've met, though. We are still alive. And I am still growing.

Still alive?

[Now he really is surprised. And a little relieved.]

That's good to know. It is something of a tabboo to turn someone so young, usually. A young vampire of our kind never, ever grows up.

[A tabboo wasn't a law, though.]

You should come. The topic of different vampires from different worlds is becoming something of a study of mine.

I see... [She frowns.] I would not like to stay this young either. Not after what I've experienced as a grown woman due to that run-in with that fugitive-- Miss Riley.

Will I need to bring my father with me to gain admission?

It would be ideal, yes. At least the first time. Perhaps after that your father can speak with me about guardianship, should you wish to return in the future.

No good can be achieved by starving yourself.

I will inform him, then. [She nods.]

Thank you, Monsieur. I will attend Fangtasia's opening, then.

I look forward to speaking with you in person.

What was the name again? And that of your father?
