What is a vampire?

[The man sat facing the video is dressed in deep red and black, his shirt unbuttoned about halfway to reveal an extremely pale swathe of chest. He is blonde, hair gelled back and smile liquid. Behind him is what appears to be a red curtain. My experience since arriving here is that every vampire is different. Many of you have ( Read more... )

[ by comparison, leo is dark-haired, dark-eyed-- save for the unusual golden lights that move and change in his gaze (old despite his apparent youth). he's leaning forward slightly, curious, an elbow on his chair and chin in his palm. ]

Is it common, then? For humans to want to be bitten by your people?

[Eric is still smiling, tilting his head slightly, examining the other man in the video quietly.]

It appeals to some, though I can't say it's common, no. I can at least say that I have not been wanting for voluntary contributions, since the Great Revelation.

'Great Revelation'? [ he could practically hear the capital letters in those two words. ] .. Given what you've said already.. a time in which humans became aware of your existence?

[ a pause, mouth quirking somewhat apologetically. ]

.. As a warning, I ask a lot of questions.

That's correct. It was decided that humans were ready for the truth, and with modern science came the development of artificial blood. It was possible to promote our right to exist, given those conditions.

You are quite welcome to ask whatever you like--as I am within my rights not to answer. [His smile doesn't falter, but it does turn up a notch in amusement.] I did expect an inquisition of one kind or another.

.. And humans seem to-- accept you?

[ the gold flickers in his eyes, revealing clear amusement on his behalf, as well. ] I'm interested in other beings that are long-lived, I'm afraid. I'm somewhat.. unique where I'm from, so it's intriguing being in a place in which longevity like yours isn't so unusual.

A few do not. It is a case of winning hearts and minds, as you can imagine, and not easy when you are literally after their blood.

[And folds his arms, displaying that he's settling in rather than becoming bored.]

How long lived?

I suppose it must be. I'm-- surprised, I suppose. But then, perhaps where you're from, they're less superstitious at last.

[ his gaze slides away briefly, as if in thought, before returning to the screen. ]

I can immediately recall at least-- eight or nine previous lifetimes. But I haven't remembered everything, yet. [ a slight tilt of his head, smile a touch self-deprecating. ] .. It may take a while.

There will always be those who are afraid of other cultures, and our culture no less so. We only want the same rights as humans. To own property, pay our taxes, and serve and be served by our community, as we rightfully deserve.

It sounds like you have a wealth of knowledge to discuss. When you say lifetimes, are you suggesting reincarnation of some kind?

People who have always had such rights hardly understand how important they are to those who have not.

As do you. [ a delicate pause. ] Yes, I suppose it's something very like that. .. Not always in the traditional sense.

Yes, they hardly do. We live in fortunate times, however.

Not always? Something better discussed in private, I imagine?

I'm afraid so. Most people find it a bit controversial.

[ a small pause, smile curving his mouth again. ]

At least, according to my experience.

[He raises both eyebrows.]

Most people would find surviving on the blood of humans for a millenia controversial, I think you'll find me an unjudgemental audience.

[ there's something like laughter in his expression at that, but then it settles again into its faintly-amused, almost serene lines. ]

I suppose you're correct. Well, perhaps we'll have to have such a conversation in person, then. Though.. I don't believe we're acquainted.
