[The feed turns on to the interior of RedFly Designer, known for its designer clothing at discounted prices. Hattie can be seen being catered to by a woman and two men, the gentlemen in question carrying stacks of boxes and following her as she gives a brief close up of each item she comes across, some added to her pile and others discarded. What is it? [ What she wants to say is, 'What do you want NOW and give back my necklace.' But she doesn't. ]

Ella, I need you to do me a teensie tiny favor. I need you to get in contact with a Lawrence Butz. Tell him that we're ready to have him come over, and provide him our address if he needs it.

All right fin-- wait, what do you mean "we"? [ And who was Lawrence Butz? ]

[Hattie seems rather proud of herself, only to seem uncertain afterward]
Well.. That is the idea at least. We'll also need sandwiches. And a frying pan if he gets uppity.
Reply
... Look, you can't just beat someone over the head with a frying pan if they start to refuse. Gods above, I shouldn't even have to say that.
Reply
Oh? I can't?
[She reaches to pat Ella atop her head and gives a fluttering laugh]
You'll learn soon enough, Ella, you'll learn. Besides I -am- going to do it myself.
[Beat]
Just with you. Now send the message, and let me know when you're done.

"Useful enough". People are not objects to be used and then discarded when you don't need them anymore, Hattie.
[ She'd say more but the curse is pulling at her to move towards her NV. She turns to move towards the couch, but not before she utters a parting shot. ]
If it's with me, you're not exactly doing it yourself. [ With a huff, she sits and scans the NV for this Lawrence person her stepsis talked to. Ahah -- there it is. A few minutes pass. ]

It's done.

[While Ella was doing her thing, she may have heard Hattie's voice occasionally shift to the recognizable tone of when she's offended. By the time she returns, the older step-sister is grumbling, head down on the desk]
We need to talk. Sit down.
Now.

[ Kerplunk, Ella's knees buckle as she sits down abruptly. Actually it was more of a wobble stumble quickly sit before she falls, and hardly graceful, but let's not quibble the details. Fixing brown eyes on her stepsister, she cast a glance around to make sure her roommate wasn't lurking about. ]
What now?

Well. I just walked right into your little trap, didn't I, Ella? I just had a not-so-pleasent chat with a number of your faithful guard dogs.
.. What did you tell them about me?
Reply
Trap? What are you talking about, I didn't lay any kind of trap. [ Not so pleasant chat ... W..wait, she has guard dogs? ]
I have no idea what you're talking about. [ She starts to get up. ] And I didn't tell anyone about you. Contrary to what YOU think, the world does not revolve around you. I never even mentioned I had a stepsister when I got here.
[ And what little she did tell anyone was extremely low key. No more than that she didn't much care for you, Hattie. GEE, WONDER WHY. ]

"If anyone asks why I can't work, tell them I have a disability." Those were YOUR words, and I did exactly that. [ She smiles, not terribly sincerely. ] All I did was inform them that the disability you had was an allergy to responsibility. [ Your own fault for not being more specific. The smile fades again, souring. ]
I haven't said anything to anyone about you. Why would I? [ The reminder of Arieda is like a sharp slap in the face, and her hands clench slightly. She missed her Ayorthian friend, terribly - and it hurt that Arieda would never know why she dismissed her so callously. ]
My future is already ugly. You're here in it. [ No, she will not be more careful with what she says. She may be more careful about how she says it, so Hattie doesn't find out - or who she says it to. All this because her friends wanted to look out for her. Ella glances away for a few minutes to control her hurt ( ... )

Y- You.. You insolent.. You!
[She swings her arm to slap Ella right across the face, as her breathing picks up.]
You always, -always- have to do things the hard way, don't you, Ella? Now stand up and get out of my room, this discussion is over!

Gladly. [ She doesn't even wait for the curse to pull her to her feet - she practically bounces up, stalking briskly out the door. The one thing she wishes she could have done, was snatch the necklace off of Hattie's neck. It sickened her to see her mother's memento on that witch. ]
