☣ o15; [video]

Jul 04, 2011 14:40

[The video feed starts with a screen of bright blue; one that only shows itself to be something other than a technical error when a wisp of white rare to the sky today peeks into view. The microphone rumbles with the breeze whipping across it. After a moment of this, things seem to calm, and the camera is turned on Kazuhiko's face ( Read more... )

voice, fashionably late? formerfoxhound July 7 2011, 08:47:41 UTC
[Snake isn't familiar with Kazuhiko. For better or for worse, he doesn't immediately make the connection to Shinji, either.]

...Unfortunately, it's never as easy as black and white, no matter where you are.

People are capable of terrible things in the right circumstances. That's part of being human. But it's never too late to change, if they make the choice. And that's part of being human, too.

[Doesn't mean they will change, every time. Doesn't mean people can always afford to grant the opportunity for them to change their minds. But Snake has seen what war can do to people. Experienced it firsthand, from both angles. The sort of things he's done, he doesn't have it in him to condemn anyone for good very easily. He's not a good person by a long shot. He's not a monster, either.]

...

[Silence after that, as if he's considering going on. Instead, he asks a question.]

You look like hell. What happened?

[What Urick did with his own time wasn't any of his business. But they'd been working together pretty consistently recently. He'd been wondering what Urick had been up to when he'd taken off for a couple days. Looks like he got his answer.]

[Not a particularly familiar voice, so his own is trained to even as he replies.]

Doing monstrous things doesn't make someone a monster in my eyes either. I'm not sure if there's a point that I would call someone a monster at all. But I'm not sure.

[And a matching silence before he musters a vague reply.]

I was attacked, but I'm fine now. It's nothing to be concerned about.

voice, too kind! formerfoxhound July 7 2011, 20:02:58 UTC
[Snake is rarely anything short of near-deadpan himself, so they're about even. Literally.]

You're overcomplicating it. "Monster" is just a word like any other. Whether you use it or not doesn't really matter. Don't worry so much about that until you know just what it means to you.

[Vague, but what happened to this guy isn't really any of his business, either. If he's not going to tell, Snake doesn't have much of a reason to press.]

I won't ask. Sounds like you've got it under control. Urick's a good guy.

voice, never! lucycoded July 11 2011, 02:42:32 UTC
[Overcomplicating? It's better than assuming things to be simple, because in his experience, things are never, ever what they seem.]

Perhaps. [And moving on.]

He seems to be, though I didn't meet him personally. I still need to thank him.

[Yep, overcomplicating. Putting too much emphasis on the semantics. You're obviously stuck on something. Figure out the meaning behind that before you worry about putting a name to it. "Monsters" and "heroes" are rarely what they're cracked up to be.]

[But moving on. He lets the first subject drop and makes a small humming noise at the rest.]

I don't think it was about getting the thanks.

[Not from what small amount he knows of Urick.]

But I'll pass it on, if you can't get in touch. What's your name?

[A habit that's hard to break.]

I know he didn't do it for the thanks, but regardless, he deserves it.

[A small nod, even if Snake can't see it.] My name is Kazuhiko Amamiya.

Kazuhikio, huh?

[A little familiar, but it's probably because of the similarity to Kazuhira Miller, his old teacher who had been in the city briefly several months back. In any case something was familiar here, but he was never great with people. or facial recognition.]

[A bit of a pause as he considers it, but he files the name away and offers his own in return.]

Solid Snake.

[On the other hand, Kazuhiko is remarkable with all sorts of recognition, down to body language.]

Are you related to Liquid Snake in some way?

[Then he'll probably pick up on this. Snake's voice goes even flatter and he makes a low, quiet, but decidedly not amused sound over the feed before he answers.]

...you could say that.

[Dismissal. It's a sore subject then.]

How closely? A brother?

Close? We're not.

[It's mostly the truth. They're only close on the genetic level, and Snake couldn't care less about his genes. Brothers, yes. Identical twins, even. But Snake doesn't actually claim him as family by a long shot.]

You shouldn't get the wrong idea.

What wrong idea are you fearing I'll think of? [Family is something foreign to Kazuhiko outside of an understanding of psychology and biology. Even the experience of having someone within a family line of genes is too distant to intimating understand. The idea that somewhere in his world are the parents of his body (whether living or not) is thrown out as well.

He is not their son. They would not treat his as such. ... Further still, they would likely settle blind blame on him for the loss of their real child, despite the fact his body would still be in front of them.

A sickening thought, one that quiets Kazuhiko into thought.]
