[ Something shiny this way comes! Or actually the NV is on prior to the Unicorn's arrival. Probably she left it on deliberately, or just forgot about it. She lets out a small whinny and shakes her mane as she moves in front of the NVmirror ( Read more... )

Hunting ground, huh...

[The unicorn again. He frowned a little.]

I've never been there myself, but it sounds like any other hunting area to me.

It is barbaric to take a mere child, to kill for sport. Yet I have heard that even humans do this to their own, in that place.

Well... I've never heard of humans hunting other humans for sport, but I'm not surprised. Usually they hunt other species.

I do not believe it happens often. I was informed once, of enslaved humans being hunted as game in that place as well, at one time.

How pitiful. It's bad enough they turn on other species, let alone turn on our own...

Indeed. I cannot fathom the reasoning behind such actions - certainly hunts have been done where I am from, but it was rarely for sport, and certainly not against ones own kind.

People only seem to grow more cruel in time.

It is not so for all. As there ever shall be those who demonstrate cruelty, there are those who show kindness. The balance remains.

[...Pitiful.]

Yet those who show kindness are drowned in cruelty. It's a weak balance.

You do not speak for all.

I'm not trying to. [A laugh.] I would never be so presumptious. All I mean is... the people that are cruel tend to drown out the voices of the people that are kind. So people don't always see the good side of their own kind.

I see. It is true - I do not understand the obsession with such cruelty, when kindness is a far greater thing in such a world.

It's because cruelty sticks to the mind more. People are programmed to remember bad things more easily than good things, most likely so that they can learn from the bad things and avoid them in future. On top of that, cruel acts cause more damage to people and people remember damage done to them for a long time. It takes more effort to remember kind acts. Nobody's sure why.

It is certainly understandable to wish to learn from unpleasantries. It is a pity that more effort is not remembered of kindness, and more pleasant events. Perhaps people would not be so swift to reject the idea of hope and goodness in others, were it so.

It is. But in the end, there's nothing that can be done about it, right?

I am uncertain to this. I cannot believe that there truly is nothing to be done, should one have the will for it.
