So. Man. I didn't think about it until now, but I realized tommorow's going to officially be my first full year in this place.
Feels--surreal. I mean, I guess you could say this place saved my life. It definately saved me from the zombies. Hell, it probably saved me from whatever shady bullshit the military would've done to me if I was a carrier of

Been here just as long as you have... longer I guess. [But he didn't remember some of it...]

I think you were. I'd ask you, but I--doubt you'd remember much of it from the sounds of last time.

All I know is I was a bouncer before I forgot every damn thing. Sounds more exciting than the job I got now at least.

[Pause.] Oh. When Zoey was here the first time around... she mentioned what they did to people after they picked you up.
Yeah, you were a bouncer. Used that to buy me a drink, too. [ololol.] Why don't you go back to being a bouncer, if selling suits is that boring?

Do I even wanna know?
[He snorts.] Did I now? Maybe I will... then I don't have to dress assholes with no sense of style every goddamn day.

Creepy tests and killing people and shit. That's sort of the basics of it.
[SHRUG.] I've never been a bouncer and the most I ever dressed a guy was fixing our anchorman's tie because he can't do it themselves. I wouldn't know.

Dammit, see? I told you it wasn't a good idea to go towards the people dropping bombs on us! [Yeah, honestly a little creeped out...] Did that happen to them after the bridge shit or what?
If I was a bouncer, you'd get free drinks at least...

[Still teasing! She frowned a bit at the next bit of conversation, though. Whatever order this was going on.]
Nick, Plan A was going to something that could actually get us out of there, and Plan B was sitting around and getting killed. Do you think we had a choice? [Though to be honest herself, she was creeped out too. And an edge of anger was creeping into her voice when she answered him. Anger she was trying to CONTROL, but wasn't doing a very good job at.] Before. They didn't tell us, either. They were gonna grab a boat and head to the Florida Keyes after they sent us in the military's direction.
[SIGH. Okay, the drink thing at least took the edge off her tone, though.]
... Yeah, I think I'd like that.

Plan A, for all we know, will get us killed too... [Honestly, he's not in any hurry to find out right now. That... that kinda pissed him off though.] What, so they were just gonna feed us to the goddamn wolves? They couldn't have, I don't know, mentioned it before we drove off?
[Dammit. There went the good mood...]
Still buy you a couple drinks anytime, you know? I got a lot of booze to make up for that I took off you...

So you'd have rather gotten eaten or blown up? [Rochelle pursed her lips. Give her a sec--
[Private.]
I don't know. I kind of--screamed at Zoey about it the second time she showed up here. They said they were 'looking out for their own' after the one guy... Bill? After Bill died.
[Ugh.]
... Okay. Sure. I think I might need a drink sometime soon, anyway. I probably should have told you that sooner, anyway. I didn't know if you knew already. Both you and Zoey and Ellis were here longer than I was.

Neither option's great, all right? [He quiets for a moment, just thinking.]
How is giving a heads up gonna prevent that? [He can't help it; it pisses him off too. All that time... traveling and hoping and for all they knew, the goddamn army would be worse than the zombies.] Would've been better to know than betting all our hope on shit like that.
Same here. [He's damn sure he needs a drink right now.] Might've been something I forgot after the last time, I don't know.

[She was quiet for a minute.]
I don't know. Something about hoping we'd have a better chance than they did. I honestly kinda forgave her already but--I thought you might wanna know.
[That was what Zoey said the first time she was here, anyway...]
Oh, that's right. I forgot about that... [She sighs.] Yeah. I need that.
Reply
[Just a little sincerity, that's all he asks!]
Better chance? [He scoffs.] Dammit... yeah, well, I guess we know even if zombies are simpler, guess we might want to enjoy the time we got here, huh? We might have the glamorous life of lab rats when we get back after all...
We can meet up this weekend or something if you want.

[Lie.]
--Point. [She sighed.] But if we haven't infected this whole island yet, maybe we're not Carriers. So maybe... I don't know. They'd let us off easy.
[Wait, shit. Then they still had Coach to worry about.]
... Yeah. Sure.
Reply
[He doesn't believe your lies, Rochelle ): ]
Do you think that shit applies here?
[Damn. There was Coach... they didn't know for sure if he was--he wasn't even gonna think about that.]
Sounds good.
Reply
[Whatever, whatever...]
It should. If we were carrying the infection you or Ellis would have gotten the whole goddamn island sick before I even came here.
[She hoped. Ugh.]
Okay.
