[[OOC: Backdated to mid-afternoon.]]
[When the audio comes on, it's not Retsu's voice that is heard, but rather that of a man. She's surreptitiously turned on her NV to have an accessible record of what's happening here. Modern ways. She is learning them.]
-- you can understand, right? I mean, we're only looking out for you all here. Be a shame if things had to get shut down . . .
[And now she's speaking, in the same calm, level tone that she always uses.] It rather would be, were there cause for it. However, you have yet to explain why you think there might be. I would hope that you would not waste your time on baseless speculations; surely you have much important work to do and cannot spare these moments.
[Another man's voice now, trying and failing to not sound defensive.] Look, our sources are our own, doctor. Presuming you're even qualified to be one. How do we even know that you are?
[If she's insulted, she doesn't sound like it.] How interesting. You are assured of the idea that we've illegally acquired our medications, but you are unsure of the staff's credentials? I confess this makes little sense to me.
We know what we know. How isn't any concern of yours. We're just trying to make sure everything is up to code here. If we had to shut this clinic down, how many of your patients would die? You'd feel pretty guilty about that, if you're any kind of a doctor. You don't want that to happen, right? I'd hate to see you feel so awful.
It would be most regrettable, I agree. However, we are perfectly aware of what the legalities are here, and I do not see as we will have to face such a dire consequence. It would be most irresponsible to operate in such a manner, knowing what could befall everyone were it discovered. This clinic is not governed by fools.
[The first man speaks again, his voice edged with frustration.] And neither is AGI. We wouldn't be here without a reason. You speak so highly of responsibility. Exactly how is a doctor supposed to be responsible for her patients if she's dead, do you think?
[Here, her voice brightens considerably, sounding far too cheerful for having just received a death threat.] That would be quite impossible, would it not? I am going to assume that you are speaking purely in hypotheticals, as levying such a threat would be so very drastic of you. Surely you would think better than to resort to such measures, seeing as you've no proof of illegal activity. And trying to ensure the safety of the patients hardly seems as though it should be accomplished by promising physical harm to the doctors.
[A brief pause as she lets that sink in.] You have of course considered all this before speaking, I am sure. As you have said, you are not fools. Do you have any more questions, or may I see to my work now?
[The two male voices fumble over one another.] Y-yes, Doctor. I mean no.
No more questions, that is. We've, uhm . . . we've -
-- taken up far too much of your time. Th-thank you for your co-operation.
[The feed ends with the sound of two pairs of feet scuffling and scrambling to leave the room.]
