[the video focus in on a semi-cleaned up Bigby. He straightens his lapels and steps further back into view - showing that he's wearing a full policeman's uniform.

He smirks.]Not a bad fit, huh? I'm under observation right now, but if all goes well you'll be seeing this uniform change into something higher pretty soon ( Read more... )

Like Jayden said, I'm sure we can work out a deal to get you wearing a suit instead of all of that. It shouldn't take long.

[Hell, she wouldn't stay on the force if she couldn't wear what she wanted.]

[suddenly his eyes are a little more focused; darker]

Ms. Mayer. I'll take your word on that.

It'll happen. The credentials you listed will see to that. With the force working overtime to keep the city safe, it shouldn't be long before you see some form of promotion or shift in rank.

[Especially if some of the SERO and AGI-affiliated workers end up quitting, which she suspects they might.]

[he nods.] Those do a lot here.

What did you work before you joined?

I was a caseworker. In all technicality, I still am. I just work here as a partial liaison.

That's not how I've heard it.

And what have you heard?

That you're the woman to go to with issues, because you're perfectly capable of handling them.

To tell you the truth, Ms. Mayer, I was expecting you to be somewhere around a commissioner in rank.

I'm not that good, honestly. Up until some time ago, we had an employee within the police force who was suspected of several counts of murder and torture. The SPPD pushed it under the rug and ignored it. The man was a Newcomer.

It's only served to put a terrible light on other Newcomers, especially in the force. We're under constant scrutiny. Promotion beyond the standard officer and corporal is difficult.

But you'd have the position if it weren't for the stigma.

Possibly. I've only been here a year. It'll probably be another six months before my next promotion, provided that everything goes well.

Or there isn't another assassination.

That too, but what happened with the governor isn't our fault. He had bodyguards unaffiliated with the SPPD.

Not what I was implying.

With the SPPD controlling tensions between the two corporations now, anyone wanting to spark a fight is going to go after the peacekeepers to do it.

Everyone is sufficiently warned about the dangers when they begin this job. When martial law is lifted, hopefully we won't be so heavily targeted.

Maybe. But can you honestly say if someone takes it into mind to shoot the chief, there won't be retaliation? I don't know about your world, but in mine our group doesn't keep our calm after someone takes one of our own.

And under martial law? Whoo. [a pause as he blows out a puff of smoke] What a clusterfuck that could be.
