[A familiar cowboy hat comes into view on this feed, followed by a familiar figure, that of the rugged Jake Marshall with a stupidly broad grin on his face; even at the angle he's propped the NV up, with his feet on his table, it's obvious he's happy about something.] You folks wanna know somethin'? [He tips his hat up with two fingers, swirling ( Read more... )

Much obliged, Wright. I reckon this means I should be lookin' fer your blue suit the next crime scene I come to?

[He whips out his Bowie knife, and starts shaving his eternal stubble. This should be a familiar sight by now.]

Well you could, but I suggest rather than looking out for me, you spend your time looking out for the evidence.

Heh. Good one, Wright. But I can 'bout guarantee I'll be findin' it all 'fore you get there.

Oh good. Because we can't have me doing your job for you, can we?

Relax, will ya? I ain't like Gumshoe. [Unfortunately, even Jake knows of Gumshoe's poor record with detective work.] I'm good at spottin' clues and evidence, don't you fret, hombre. Crime scene's like a gold mine to me. [There he goes mixing his cowboy/prospector metaphors again. :T]

[Poor Gumshoe, his poor detective skills are legendary in the LAPD]

Well so long as you dig it all up, then you can guarantee a win for the prosecution. Don't go arresting any innocents, and I won't have innocent people to defend.

I've been at this a lot longer than you've been a lawyer, Wright, even if y'are two years older than I remember ya. Y'don't need to tell me twice. I ain't guaranteein' a win fer anybody. If a man's innocent, the evidence will tell.

But the prosecution shouldn't bring a case against an innocent man at all, that's the point. Too often my clients could have been saved from trial if simple detective work could have been done first, and the real perpetrator should have been on the stand all along.

I wasn't in the habit of puttin' an innocent man near the hangman's noose when I started, I ain't gonna start now if I can help it. You can bet your Stetson on that, Wright. [Metaphorical Stetson, anyway.]

Bet my what? No, nevermind. I know you'll be a great detective, Jake.

Yer Stetson. [He taps his hat, to signify.]

Well thank ya kindly, Mister Wright.

My pleasure.

You know, I can show you to a themed cowboy bar in Sector Three some time to congratulate you, if you like. After the trial against AGi, though, if that's alright.

... heh. Y'mean just like in the Old West? Sounds like just the place fer me.

[He starts his shaving again, pardon him.] S'fine with me, hombre, you just take yer time. I ain't in a rush.

Of course not. I'll give you a call when I'm not overwhelmed with cases.

I'll be waitin' then. You take care of yourself, Mister Wright. Y'hear?
