[ Without dithering for very long on image features or video (her startled expression in ink on the page is as easily switched off as it was accidentally turned on), text begins to form in lines, word by word at the speed at which she writes. It's slow for the moment as the pages of her book-form NV are wet. ]It was not raining when I was at the ( Read more... )

[ Only a month before she arrived here too. This "Core" really was interesting. ]

If they did not inform you, the year is different, as well.

[ That voice. Her writing hand wavers before she stills, clasping the book's edges, putting the pen to paper with the utmost care and a hopeful heart. She writes slowly to give time for a potential immediate response. ]

Father.

[ -he gave her information, it would only be right to respond. ]

Would the year be later than 1931?

[ This is, really, the best sort of company he could have here-- someone loyal to him, in case the worst happened, as he had been warned. ]

It is currently the year 2011.

[ It would be harder to believe if the technology here were not far beyond that of his own "world." ]

Things are not that much different other than the machinery.

[ There is probably little that he does not already know about this place, and so there is no need for her comments. Seventy years is a long time for a mortal to contemplate, still. ]

Is Leeza here?

Very good; you should have little trouble adjusting.

[ On a surface level, they were not. The thoughts of people did change within that time, though, but he was no stranger to that. She, however, was. Even so, a gap of 70 years of progress that he had not been able to see (even through another's eyes) wasn't something he had been expecting. Not that it had taken him all too long to adjust. ]

She is not.

There are already constants in this place.

[ Meaning she can remain in the same neutral (not going so far as to call 'stable', considering the latest events before landing here; events Huey does not need to be concerned with) state as always and cope with what lies in store for her. For Leeza not to be present does little else but rule out the possibility of communicating in any other way but text. ]

I can come to you if need be.

[ Things are not what they were-- for him, the main adjustments are a lack of the resources he'd had, less support with which to perform his experiments. However, Chane is no less useful to him than she had been. If anything, she is more useful than before, now that she is his only creation here. ]

That can wait.

[ Until he has fully decided how to approach this place as a whole, it would be better to wait. ]

Yes, father.

[ If she knew her value had increased because the others were no longer around... well, there could be many 'others' she was not aware of, and she would not change anything about her approach. Similarly, a change of environment is not reason enough to sway her either. ]

If there is anything I can do, I will do it.

[ If she would have changed anything, become less eager to perform well just because of those facts, that in itself would have made her worthless. Even-- no, especially-- now. ]

I know you will. That is why I have faith in you.

[ A nod would suffice there, but the page is blank and a word seems too much. She is starting to miss the ease of communicating from his mind to hers; a fair exchange for her presence close to his, she supposes. ]

Thank you.

[ He would consider it more of a minor setback, a natural result of a lack of one factor. To him, there is no sense putting it in those terms. But she is not him, despite the sharing of blood.

His faith in her is, as well, a simple fact, rather than something emotional. All the same: ]

All you need to do is remain here...and remain loyal.

[ A setback, perhaps- it is certainly different to her (until recently) current practice. Having words written down is so much more solid than relaying mentally or, once upon a time, speaking. Yet writing her confirmation does not feel solid enough for her feelings. Nothing does but pure action. ]

Yes, father.

[ He does not believe that she has reason to betray him. Until that does happen, he will continue to have that faith, her feelings aside. ]

For now, that is all.

[ Until he has need of her, she can wait. Much like a tool waiting on the table, a knife waiting to make an incision. ]

[ She wonders whether she will be called to action first or find reason to jump to action unprompted, as she did in New York; either way, for the moment, she can afford not to act. Until her father requires it. ]

Yes.

[ Though there is more for her to do here, there is also less that he can do-- a father would think that this is a chance for his daughter to finally have freedom. He, instead, wonders when he can once again take that from her. It is not for the sheer wish to do so, but he does not like waiting idly. ]

For now, so as not to create any suspicions...it would be wise to live like the others here. Do you understand?

[ Her abduction from Manhattan could hardly be called freedom, no more so than her distance from her father's side in the first place. Brief though it was, there came a short period of time in this port where she was more concerned with her safety than his. With Huey commanding her attention, she suppresses the thought that she could ever have done that; he is always right, is he not? ]

Yes, father. As a newcomer.
