[The feed starts out shaking, aimed at nothing in particular, with an animalistic snuffling sound close to the microphone. Fainter, some yelling can be heard.]

Xavier guys? [That catches his attention.]

And no, it's not normal. Sadly for here it is. Are you all right? Is your...companion all right?

Yeah. "The Xavier Institute for Higher Learning." The spandex squad from there wanted to take Molly away. We ran smack-dab into them less than a week ago.

That's more than disturbing, actually. But I'm fine. A little violated, but nothing I can't deal with. Same goes for her.

Ah, well. I can promise they aren't responsible for you being here. Is Molly your sister? She can't be your daughter, you aren't old enough.

Yes, it is. But I'm glad you are both all right. Have you met with a greeter yet?

Why, are you one of them? [Suspicion suspicion.]

She's not my sister, but she's family.

Uh... no. I was too busy getting my hand-eating point across to the suits.

I used to be. Idealogical differences. But they aren't responsible for this place.

Ah, all right. I haven't seen any children by name of Molly on the Network, if that eases your fears.

What is she? [Curious]

Can't see why anyone would break off from a bunch of guys saying they know what's best for mutantkind.

It does, and it doesn't. The rest of the gang may be with her, but that won't stop me from worrying a bit.

...who, Molly?

[He's going to choke because he's trying not to laugh. Because MAGNETO knows best for Mutantkind, thank you.] Yes, because hiding and praying the nice people who want to kill you will be content with you merely hiding yourself from their sight is what's best for Mutants.

I have family back home too. For what it's worth, when you go back, it's right where you were taken from, so if they were okay when you left, they are still okay.

Whatever was going to eat their hands.

Look. I'm one hundred percent for mutant rights. They're not monsters or any of that bull, they're another minority suffering from social prejudices. But really, I haven't seen a whole lot of positive change happening thanks to the X-Men. The best that's happened is the whole 'homo superior culture' that's developed due to non-costume wearing mutants. It's low-brow in some ways, but it's given more people a positive impression of mutants, or at least a less-negative one.

Well... that's good, I guess.

[A curious chirping.] She's not a what. Her name's Old Lace, and she's my deinonychus.

So am I. [Must. Not. Laugh.] That's why I lived and worked on Genosha, after Magneto took over. Same reason I did in Israel after the war. There are people for whom the school is an excellent idea. Children with no other place to go, children who are too traumatized for mainstream school, children whose powers are completely out of control. But it shouldn't be a permanent solution. Isolation just makes you easier to kill.

A deinonychus? Where did she come from? May I see her?

Genosha, huh? Always figured I'd visit there after college, depending on the political situation. It was still in ruins last I looked into it. Were you there after the Sentinel bombing?

The school sounds like it does some good, but you can't force people to go there. If they want to study there, let it be their choice. You can't blame someone for choosing to isolate themselves; forcing it just takes us back to the forced busing of the 1960s to the 1980s. And throwing in the 'for their own protection' line just makes it more questionable.

The 87th century. Why, you don't want to dissect her, do you? [Bit of a concerned growl.]

Before, during, and after. I went in after Magneto took control, to help with the Legacy epidemic.

Takes it even further back than that - forcing people to isolate themselves for the protection of themselves and other is the same rational of the Ghettos in Poland, and of reservations in the Americas.

No! No! The 87th century? Really? But no, the savage land dinosaurs aren't anywhere near tame enough to get a close look. [He sounds shocked at the idea.]

[Have a good look at Old Lace. She looks... kind of like she's smiling? It's very difficult to tell with a deinonychus.]

The Savage Land? No, she wasn't caught. She was genetically engineered by my parents.

I wanted to avoid bringing up the reservations and the like, mostly because people start getting really sensitive to discussions of that nature, no matter how close to the truth they may be. But yeah, it reeks of using an academic facade as an excuse to start up the internment camps of World War II and earlier. Though, they seemed benign enough about it that I wouldn't attribute the worse versions to the school.

Oh she's beautiful. [There's some part of Magneto's brain that is still nine. And what nine year old boy DOESN'T love dinosaurs?]

That's...quite amazing. SERO didn't bother her did they?

Charles is...closer to me than a brother. Which is why I wouldn't say such to him, because he does mean well. He's trying to protect others. But he's never believed in visibility. And when you are a member of a minority, being invisible gets you killed.

[Even though it's aimed at Old Lace, Gert seems a little stunned by hearing the word. Old Lace just chirps.]

Not... too much. She was on good behavior, but mostly because I didn't want anyone trying to tranq her, or worse. They did some bull medical stuff, cotton swabs and the like. They optioned for more testing, but I drew the line.

Didn't expect to be talking to a close friend of Charles Xavier. But meaning well doesn't give you a free pass. Being visible is part of what causes change. After all, staying out of the public eye makes the public forget there's a problem. At least then, you still have a likelihood of getting hurt or killed, but no one can ignore it.

[If he was paying attention to Gert's appearance, he would say she was beautiful too. But...he fails at things like that.]

Good. The apartments there are free for 30 days. You may stay there if you wish.

Believe me, he and I had that argument many times. More than I am able to count. I wish he would have listened to me all those years before.

It's better than trying to find a hideaway under a museum. Or a collapsed underground mansion. But what about after the month is up?

People who believe in their causes are often stubborn to the point of not seeing what they're doing wrong. Seems to affect all leaders, no matter how noble their intentions. I mean, look at Cuba.
