[Merlin, this is stupid, but he has to gloat a little. No one can blame him for that!]

Who the hell would have cursed you?

I don't know! [ Pause. ] Hey, can you curse people?

Not the sort of curses you're thinking about, mate, I'm not some witch in a chicken-legs house.

A witch in a what house?

Chicken-legs. [A pause.] It's-- it's a Muggle story. You've never heard it?

... There are lots of stories of witches in houses but. Not a chicken-legs house.

[ Pauuse. ]

What's a Muggle?

You are, actually, so how the hell do I know this story when you don't, eh? The lot of you are Muggles--anyone who isn't a wizard--anyone who has stupid ideas about witches in chicken-leg houses.

... Are you talking about the Wizard of Oz? You know, Dorothy, red heels, flying house?

[voice] atrumcanis May 16 2011, 13:40:27 UTC
The wizard of where? It's not as if there's just a single wizard in places, you know, there's usually a handful.

Oz. [ Pause. ] You know, Emerald City and everything?

If that's not the one you know, that I really have no idea what 'Muggle' story you're talking about.

Yes, of course you haven't, you're a prat. [A SIGH, with slightly exaggerated exasperation.] It's nothing to do with any ozes or emeralds or any of that sort of thing. She's a witch, and her house has these chicken legs, and the house carries her about so she can--I dunno, so she can put curses on things. It's-- I dunno, some eastern country. Russia, perhaps.

Anyway, the point is, I have better things to do than curse you.

[ Pause. And then he has an epiphany! ]

Oh! Oh, the Baba Yaga! [ Pause. ] The last I've heard of a story like that was in Russia, along with the demons that come at Christmas. [ Shrugs. ]

And I don't believe you.

We could likely fill an ocean with the things that you believe that are wrong, so I suppose that your disbelief doesn't count for much more.

What were you doing in Russia?

[ He looks awkward for a moment. ]

Conference. [ Pause. ] About nuclear energy. Nothing that's important here.

And you don't know that.

[....nu-clear. Right. Muggle-things.]

It might be important, you don't know that any more than I know about your wrong beliefs! Although I'm a little more certain of mine, given all the wrong things people believe about magic and wizards and all. I mean, you were just going on about emeralds and things, weren't you.

... You know, it's really strange, how you know the Baba Yaga but not the Wizard of Oz. You're really missing out, here.

Besides, you never know. There's a lot of worlds here. The story I read might be real in another world.
