It sounds like the Core's working just fine now.

Then why hasn't my stupid power gone away?!

[Keigo looks scared and then takes a few deep breaths, like someone trying to calm himself down.]

Um…does anyone know any good ways to clean burn marks off a coffee table?

Several, depends on how bad the burn marks are.

You do realize most people here have powers and the Core gives those who arrive here without powers some, correct? That is normal functioning for the Core.

I didn't have these powers until that thing happened with the Core, so they were supposed to go away!

The Core also made some people's powers much more powerful. It could, certainly, have 'jumpstarted' yours.

That's not fair! Being able to see things from the spirit world was bad enough!

It doesn't sound fun, no.

Do you, would you like to meet somewhere to talk about it?

I need to clean this place up first or my roommate will kill me for doing it again!

Do you need help?

It will help if you stay calm.

This is when you could tell me about those "several" ways for getting rid of burn marks, you know.

I know I have to stay calm! That's what sets it off! But how I am supposed to stay calm when-

[And...there goes some fancy knick-knack that Keigo never liked, but Uryuu will never let him hear the end of for destroying.]

Show me the damage. [Gently.]

Breathe deeply. Meditate if you know how. Accidents happen with new powers, it's normal.

But how many accidents before it stops being normal?

Honestly? It can take years.

[His shoulders slump before he turns his phone around to show the coffee table. There's a streak of blackness across the left third of the table.]

Here's what I did to it.

Hm. If that is just surface damage, wipe the table top down with a damp rag, then very lightly scrub it with a steel wool pad, bluff it with a piece of very fine sandpaper, and then rub the surface with food grade mineral oil or finishing oil. If it's deeper than that, it might still be fixable but will take a bit more to refinish.

Right.

[He's making an effort to contain the reaction, but his expression says, "Let me just get my food grade mineral oil...wait, no, I don't have any and I'm not even sure what it is!"]

I could help you, if you'd like?
