What would it have done to his pride had he known it was Miles Edgeworth that found him there crumpled beneath a heap of rubble, his clothes already stiff with the precious vermilion of a Von Karma as his stitches had been torn open completely. Would he have been humbled by the other's choice, in the knowledge that perhaps he would be saved by the boy who had pronounced his hatred of him? Would he have cried lament over his crimes of the past and die a meaningless death? These things were possible, but as he lie there in a state not-quite-there, yet not-quite-gone, he had resolved to die quietly, if at all. He was not going to be indebted to this fool, whose very wish was that he became "nothing".

Ah, but Manfred…You had always wished for this day to come.

A flicker of consciousness and he stirred, but didn't wake fully, his inert form so still he may have been sleeping. But if so, if he were to give into this deceivingly tempting slumber he would not open his eyes again. Manfred von Karma's very short stay in Siren's Port would come to an abrupt, if unfortunate end. Sleep, therefore, would be impossible.

As the darkness began to engulf him he opened his eyes, and unseeing, a hand shot out to grab at the very hem of Miles' coat as the other dialed for help. The grip was weak, barely a fraction of what it had been when he'd accosted him several days previous. But there was still a little life in him still.

His lips moved, silently, and he coughed wetly, tasting copper. A seeping cold seemed to chill him to the bone and he shuddered, unable to move. A sizable slab of concrete on his abdomen and lower half had him pinned to the floor, so no ordinary person could lift it. The best one might be able to hope for was pressure to stop the wound from flowing. Or a miracle.

"Nngh.."

Mind if KOS-MOS joins with her ridiculous feats of strength? needtobecleaned January 16 2012, 07:26:45 UTC
Since KOS-MOS hadn't met Manfred in person, she had no life-signs to go off to trace him but she could trace the call she received on her NV. That made it fairly easy to locate him and with her skills and it wouldn't be difficult to reach him and to pick up anything on top of him. Part of her was glad not to be human. As far as she knew, large amounts of blood often had a subtle scent to them that could make humans violently ill.

"Allow me to assist you." She said, joining the other man, Edgeworth she recalled, she moved the heaviest of the debris. She's lifted heavier and fought things much stronger than what had fallen on von Karma.

A scan of Manfred's body indicated various injuries and a severe loss of blood. Any other time, she'd use Medica to treat his injuries but with the damage to the building and all the people trapped still, she'd have to settle for carrying him to safety and leaving him in capable hands.

"He is in need of emergency treatment."

GO KOS-MOS GO. FIGHT THE GNOSIS and also the big chunks of rubble. mentis_reae January 16 2012, 15:56:01 UTC
Edgeworth had scarcely heard the woman approach, and so his eyes snapped up in surprise and no small amount of guilt. Had she been there as he stood over his mentor, spending those precious seconds cravenly debating leaving him to his death? No - certainly not, he reflected, watching her as she crisply and efficiently came onto the scene and began to work. She'd have simply walked past him and done her work, which included -

"Be careful - " he bit out as she seized a block far too heavy for any single person, let alone a woman of her frame, to budge. But she lifted it easily and set it aside. Edgeworth stared until he placed her - the woman who had called herself a weapon, KOS-MOS - and then simply shook his head. He'd seen more remarkable things in this place than that, he supposed.

"All right." He took in a deep breath and nodded to her. "I can administer some aid, but I fear I will be quite useless afterwards. Would you be capable of - helping me, as well as him, afterwards?"

Order: Kos-Mos, Edgworth, Manfred? makethemguilty January 17 2012, 00:20:07 UTC
Another cough and he gasped, true pain clouding his eyes as the slab was removed, an agony he had never known swelling within his chest with every breath. The pressure from the stone and metal had kept him from fully feeling the break in his ribs, thus when that was suddenly lifted from him he tried to scream, only to find his vocal cords felt as though they'd been severed. Instead, a pathetic sound he didn't even recognize as his own voice breathed out a strangled cry.

"G-ghnnnn.."

Trembling, his hand fell limply, his sight beginning to fail him as the room blurred in and out.

Is this...Where it all finally ends?

He never would have thought he would die in this foolish manner.

How foolish indeed. How utterly idiotic was it to think for a moment that the nightmare had been over? He lifted his head, and tried to sit up, only to find that his weakened muscles could no longer obey his mind. Silently, he cursed his weakness. Inexcusable...Inexcusable to end up this way.

"Miles", he murmured, though it was only in passing, and hoarse like he'd spent far too much time screaming. When he didn't receive a response he quite thought the other had left him there to die. That is, until, he heard shifting from the woman...KOS-MOS, wasn't that her name? The android. The weapon.

When she stood over him he barely even noticed she was there.

A flicker of a shadow and he thought he could detect a voice...A very faint voice, though he couldn't make out the words.

No. Not yet. He wasn't ready to leave yet, when there were...There were still things that required his attention. Franziska, for one. Her and that idiotic boy she'd picked up to play with. He needed to punish him properly. And Edgeworth...What a disappointment he'd become. That too warranted his attention.

Sounds good~ needtobecleaned January 17 2012, 07:04:58 UTC
"I can provide any necessary assistance to you both." She looked over von Karma, trying to find where the largest loss of blood was coming from. KOS-MOS knew what had to be done immediately to ensure his survival: apply pressure to stanch the flow of blood and keep his neck from moving in case of a hairline fracture.

Edgeworth knew what to do though, so she made her priority ensuring that the two of them were able to exit the building safely. If necessary, she could carry them both. A flicker of blue in her eyes, gone before anyone would really notice but her words after are softer and more encouraging then they might normally seem.

"Mr. von Karma, please try to remain conscious. In your condition, I do not believe it is safe."

"All right." Edgeworth nodded once, then looked down at the sad, crumpled form of the man he'd feared so completely. Even injured, he'd cut a fearsome figure at the party those few nights ago, but like this, pinned and helpless and fighting even for consciousness...He looked human. That was a revelation indeed, that he could be human rather than some god or ancient monster, so it was with a twist of ill uncertainty that he knelt down beside him.

"I'm not going to do much here. Only enough to stanch the bleeding and make it safe to move him." He looked up at the young woman to catch an odd expression in her eyes, but it was quickly gone; he pushed his surprise to the side, focusing on more pressing matters. "I should still be in a fit state to move. After that, we move him outside, and I'll take care of some of the more egregious wounds. Then we'll put him into the care of the paramedics. All right?"

He didn't wait for a confirmation before lowering his head, his hands pressed against the man's arm. He focused on how things should be, of how the human body looked when it was whole and unharmed. Under his control, crushed capillaries functioned normally once more; torn arterial walls came back together; bones knitted. Only a little bit, a small amount, conserving his strength for the more gargantuan task to come.

Many apologies for my late! makethemguilty January 21 2012, 04:26:24 UTC
She may as well have been speaking to him through water; his ears felt as if he were submersed in the unforgiving seas of the Atlantic, though that may have been due in part to the shock induced by his injuries as well as an onset of temporary deafness due to the explosion.

He did, for the most part, seem to understand what KOS-MOS meant about remaining conscious, as that was sound advice given the situation.

Who would have thought the human form could be so fragile, so utterly breakable and unforgiving of injury? Manfred, for one, was quite frustrated at his vulnerability in this situation, even more so now that Miles was gazing at him like he were something to be pitied rather than be feared. Had he not been on the verge of passing out he would've protested all the more fully, completely unaware of these so-called "powers" nearly every resident of the island possessed.

"Leave it," he choked out, though without much effect given Edgeworth was bound to ignore him despite any protests he may have had. Always the stubborn kind of child. A once devoted child…He swept the thought away, wondering vaguely where it had come from.

What sort of assistance was he deluded into thinking he could provide? Clearly the kind of care that he required would be beyond what basic first aid could account for. Von Karma had little hope in the foolishness of this game, but it wasn't as though he could forcibly remove the hands which touched him.

A shallow intake of breath and all that was before him began to blur, placing him in this odd distortion of time in which everything seemed impossibly distant and slow. The physical contact is established soon after, and numbness begins to spread throughout his body like a surgical insertion of anesthesic. Dizzily, he let his head rest back against the stone, letting the foreign sensations overwhelm him. All at once it seemed invasive and strange, a trickle of something…indescribably warm yet cooling. Von Karma gasps softly, and though counterintuitive as it was not to resist, found himself lulled into an oddly sedate state in which he felt no need to pull away.

Wth LJ, where'd my comment go?? 8| needtobecleaned January 23 2012, 04:42:00 UTC
KOS-MOS watched, interested, as Edgeworth worked. Scans of Von Karma's body showed damage being reversed, enough that he wouldn't die when moved. It was fascinating to behold, for someone who didn't use, or have the ability to use, Ether skills. Even the android was impressed, despite being from thousands of years in the future. Perhaps that was why she was impressed, considering another part of her had died a couple thousand years before this as well.

When Edgeworth was done, and as much of the mans body was healed as could be for the moment, the woman carefully lifted him. At this point, jumping down from this floor was out of the question so she had to find an alternative route for the three of them to travel. Which was much easier said than done, since KOS-MOS didn't get here by normal means. A path was found, after a few moments of scanning though; it must have been the way that Edgeworth had used to get here himself.

"Please, stay close to me in case any monsters manage to make it this far past any outside defenses."

HUFF sorry for the lateness! mentis_reae January 27 2012, 04:20:32 UTC
"Right," Edgeworth said, getting just a bit unsteadily to his feet. For once, he'd actually managed to not exhaust himself. Too often, he had to take a number of minutes after healing in order to regather his strength, but all he felt now was a bit of weariness, a bit of dizziness, a bit of nausea.

Maybe because you don't want to see him healed all that badly.

"Don't go too quickly at first," he said, then swallowed and nodded. The man in her arms did look...sad, and frail, and rather absurd given the woman's slightness and apparent weakness. It was strange to witness. Yet he couldn't spend too long dwelling upon it; with a jerk of his head he indicated that they should move forward.

Sorry guys; Archives need to get transferred over. Too distracting to play on both. makethemguilty January 31 2012, 07:53:03 UTC
Thankfully he couldn't rightly feel the break in his ribs or he would have been screaming. In fact he couldn't rightly feel much of anything, such as it was. The numbness flowing through him was a small mercy, all things considered.

He's vaguely aware of KOS-MOS' limbs winding beneath his torso before the world begins to rise above him; his arms were dangling uselessly as his weight was supported by the android's embrace. She was far stronger than he would've thought possible, but that shouldn't have come as a surprise given she'd moved the debris away from him like it was nothing more than pebbles.

"Edgeworth..."

He whispered the name with a hesitance as she began to move, unsure of what he was going to say. The bleeding had been substantial enough to where thought in and of itself was moderately difficult, let alone a fair grip on his surroundings. A hospital is what he needed now...

A shifting and he tries to lift his head, his eyes dulled considerably from the hardened granite they'd once been. There was a far-off stare before he slowly became aware that he was going to be taken from his place...Well, at least such a pathetic building wouldn't be his grave.

A cold laugh died in his throat, and he doesn't seem to be completely conscious anymore. At least he wouldn't perish right then and there. But perhaps that would've been better for Miles if he had. More convenient, to say the least. More convenient for Franziska..She wouldn't have to carry the weight of perfection anymore.
